Achievement points

So lets all boast about how many we have.

So far:

Aurielle (horde paladin so won't have many of the classic ones) = 1005

Didn't get credit for half the heroics I know I've done

700 on my mage before I got kicked because of the lag. But I skimmed the list and there were lots I've done that aren't ticked off as complete, bit strange.

Yeah they did say they did their best to see if you done particular instances, like a flag on your character if you have completed a certain quest or have a certain item in your inventory but if those don't exist they have no way of tracking it.
All you can do is just run through it again.

I gained a number of Achievements at Blizzcon thanks to Level 80 Elite Tauren Cheiftain. (Including the murcloc Achievement and getting lead game designers into pyjamams on camera)

I think one Saturday I'm gonna get a lot of booze and do it all again, uncover all areas and then do the same with outland.

ACHIEVEMENTS HAVE RUINED WOW*

*all the people coming back to do them have caused insane queues on Al'Akir realm, like over 1000 people and 45-60 min waits.

Yeah I had a wait time of 64 min last night, just sat there waiting....felt like forever!

I only have 200 or something on my Hunter and 500 on my Mage!! I haven't even bothered to look at my Warlock as it will have 0!!!

I really need to spend time sorting this!

I think some people are taking the achievement system far too seriously and the recent influx of players coming back has ruined Al'Akir. I think the idea is nice but worry about anyone who spends so much time playing it that they feel the need to complete every achievement.

It's like crack for some people, but I just don't buy into it. *Maybe* if there was some kind of benefit to lots of achievement points now (like, for example, the ability to buy unique colour dyes for armour sets like in Guild Wars), I would get into it - but there isn't, so I'm not. The whole system has a crazy capacity to make people go back and do completely redundant content, much of which they have already done lots of times before.

I appreciate it's all more virtual e-peen inches, but if it's not going to make me better at raiding or make my toon look better, I don't really see the point.

I like it, it's gives me something to do.
Give me a checklist of things to complete and I'm happy for hours in a game.

I have about 1800 on my main due to previously done content, I don't really see the attraction in doing them until there's a somewhat decent reward.

Although killing level 83 faction leaders last night with DS was quite fun

Well there are rewards for certain achivements. Titles, mounts, tabards, pets etc...

It's what you want out of it, ofc it's not for everybody. It's made me enjoy wow again, as else I'm just twiddling my thumbs until expansion not really doing much but idling. Sure it's all e-peen, but I'm quite competitive and a bit of a perfectionist, so I feel incomplete if I haven't done something I know I could.

Some are also challenging. Like doing things in a certain time, or take the explorer one; I've seen new areas of WoW I have never seen before in the 2 years I've been playing.

My current tough goal is Loremaster, as I'm missing 24 quests somewhere in Kalimdor! (Though the AQ sceptre quest line will count towards those), so I don't think that will be too hard to get now.

The instance servers falling over with load isn't so good. I mean it's great that people are running through MC / BWL for stuff but it's a shame the back-end isn't quite holding up to the demand.

It's only going to be worse with WoTLK launch, so anything they can test / change now to make that smoother is a huge bonus.

I guess the achievement system isn't for everyone. At the moment I'm trying to get back into the game before WOTLK hits and I don't see the benefit due to the lack of server stability and 30+ minute queues (I'm like Andy's parrot but I agree with him).

It feels like I have to transfer off Al'Akir if I'm going to play the game. But I've been there since day 1, which is a lot longer then the vast majority of players.
