MPUK Your Top 5 Minecraft Server Admin Actions

Hello Minecraft peeps!

What are the top 5 admin actions you do with your Minecraft server?

I just want people to list what they do the most, so that it will help shape the new version of ClanForge. If you don't have 5 actions that's fine, but please list them in order; 1 being the most done action.

I suspect it will be something like below, but I want to know what you guys think:

1. Add / Remove Plugins
2. Upload a world
3. Add admins
4. Edit Server.Properties
5. Edit white-list

Please note include all actions you do to admin your server not just those you do through Clanforge.

Thanks for your time guys

Shed

mmm what I use Clanforge to do:
1.Restart/stop server
2.Check the stats
Thats it. I guess before ftp it was.

1.Edit configs (till they worked)
2.Edit permissions (before in game commands)
3.Restart/stop server
4.Check stats
5.Download logs

One thing I can reccomend is if you are viewing a profile and press edit it remains on that tab that you were viewing, instead of going back to the first tab. I use to just look in my profiles and spot something that I would like to change quickly it was a slight pain that when I had to edit things I would be sent back to the first tab.

Another suggestion would be a quick addition button for Ops.
Have a text field and then next to it a button that said Make Op.
This button would simply get the string in the txt box and put it into a command: op <txt.string>
and send it via Rcon.

You could ask others if they would like other buttons there like setting the time. Simply sends set time 0 have a variable or just a simple button that says Day or Night.

I personnally think that the live control feature(console) was quite a hassle to get to.

I have had other ideas over the past few months but they seem to not be floating around my head at this time, if I remember I will post other things.

question updated, we actually interested in your top 5 admin actions which don't necessarily need to be action performed via Clanforge, they could be by ftp or other means.

Sorry guys, don't take this the wrong way, but we are not interested in these types of details as they specific to the current version.

We need very high level things like:-
"I kick players from my server", "I backup my world" etc

Quick 5 - 10 word tasks you perform

On clanforge

1/ Check stats
2/ Check news
3/ Will load the server.properties if needs be (which is rare and it doesn't really change).
4/ Creating new profiles

Via FTP,

1/ Load worlds
2/ Load Plugins
3/ Load Configs
4/ Download back ups
5/ Download logs

The most useful thing for me, would be something like "file manager" where things can be zipped and unzipped. For Minecraft, in particular, I don't find clanforge that useful - furthermore, the plugins are generally out of date, which means I tend to get my stuff directly from the source.

1. add / remove plugins via ftp. go to activity "2" after personal testing.

2. restore basic ftp files through clanforge when personal testing goes wrong.

3. choose a multiplay mod / bukkit profile

4. add / remove supported plugins. go to "activity "5" after personal testing went well. otheriwse "1"

5. If plugins work properly together edit server properties (whitelist, op, plugins,...)

(6. google plugins offered by clanforge that are not listed in the multiplay wiki)

1: add plugins
2: change profile files (mostly permissions and config of latest plugin)
3: restart/reload server after editing profile
4: use/test plugin commands
5: Watch over server via live control
6: Play Minecraft

Hope this was helpful

1: Downloading and uploading files via FTP
2: Using the console (This imo is the weakest part of Clanforge and I'd like to see this functioning more like it does in McMyAdmin)
3: Restarting the server

That's it. The only time I ever use Clanforge is when I want to restart the server or send something via console. Other than that I could quite happily live without Clanforge tbh. It's too slow and clunky to be of any use.

As for server actions ingame, well, the list is endless. The most important action though is probably setting permissions and groups.

1) Check backups (paranoid!)
2) if its a new profile I just ensure SMP is setup for monster spawning properly
3) Check server via live control most of the day to see who is on
4) think about putting a whitelist on but not doing it, too lazy!

1) save-all
2) whitelist (either though rcon or ingame)
3) updating permissions (PEX config file)
4) Plugin configuration through FileZilla
5) Cleaning up old plugin data through FileZilla

1. Update Plugins -- (Clanforge is OK, but I can update myself faster)
2. Manually install Plugins that aren't on the list -- (I find that many of the plugins on the list aren't up to date, or aren't that useful)
3. Edit Plugin configurations (FTP of course, so I can open in Notepad++)
4. READ LOGS!!! -- (Realtime console would help a bunch [hint, hint, nudge, nudge])
5. Backing Up / Rolling back / Restoring world -- (LogBlock reduces the need for these, but still useful)

Checking on usage statistics.
Backing up the world.
Editing the white list to let in a new player.
Restarting the world after an update.

That's about it really.
