My curiosity is getting the better of me.

I got an email from Bebo and apart from reminding me I have a bebo account, the message said "your account name has been changed for security purposes". At first I pass it off as a phishing thing, but decide to have a look at the old bebo and see what some old friends are up to, and indeed the account name was changed.

So I re-read the email, "an administrator has changed your account name for security purposes, please email support with further questions".

So being the curious soul I am, I decide to check out what the circumstances surrounding the namechange are.... and they refuse to give me any details on the matter. I ask wether the name was changed to protect the account from outsiders trying to get in, or... well it could be anything. Still they wont confirm the reasons for it just stating that it was for a 'security reason'.

It strikes me as strange because all they have done is add an underscore to the end of the name, so sureley that wont protect the integrity of the account and speaking to a friend from work last night he told me his was changed too, just an underscore added at the end...

Im not really fussed about the name change, I can live with that but Id really like to know why... but they wont tell me :P any ideas?

I guess if it really has to do with 'account security' then it is something I want to know, the profile is private and Id like it to remain that way or I guess it could be someone trying to take me out... maybe bebo know something I dont.

I can see the man in the bushes....

Some of the guys said to check for deleted accounts somewhere in the network, if I find any then maybe that person has been up to no good... I guess I could check but that mean logging into bebo, and to be honest... I dont even like the name, nevermind the website.

Really they shouldn't be changing your account without your permission, for security reasons or otherwise. I know its only a social networking site, still not right that they didn't seek your permission.

Maybe someone on the site did it as a favour to a mate who wanted to be the true tucool.

Perhaps an amalgamation of both? They wanted people to come back to the site, but some said that they would only come back so long as they could have the username THEY desired. So they changed yours. And told you, so you'd come back and kick up a ****storm.

I don't really know where I was going with this, but the next sentence had mechas and explosions and ****.

this is dumb, it's their site not the users - changing the username is fine imo
