That sounds like so much fun! Wish I could take part. Although it did occur to me, if you pull out a water pistol in the middle of London... isn't there a chance the police will kill you?

Actually to set the record straight.

The purpose of Street wars, as with killer , was to ensure that you carried out the hit in a fashion that target was removed from the gam e with no witnesses. So neither the Target nor the Assasin could be seen during the hit. If you went running through the streets of just pulled the gun in the crowd . you may or may not get the target but the points and the value would be lost since you would be out of the game.

One favourite trick when I played this was to use poison. Since poison could be employed with the target in full view it only remained for me to place the "TIC TAC" into the drink of the target. Alternatively , if they were drinking from a mug I would use a post it note and stick it to the underside of the cup, it read "As per the rules your out of them game " . Never write the word poison on the label. both methods required subtlety but allowed me to be in the view of witnesses. Again if I got caught I was out of the game.

Thats a small precis.

So rememebr this game is fun ! but ! people who dont play or know about the game being on will be bothered by your actions.

Sounds like fun to me too ... but surely the police arnt 100% about it... what with the whole stalking people, carrying of concealed 'weaponary' (you can get shot for carrying a BB-gun, so theres a chance you could with a waterpistol) hiding in dark corners etc... But then again, people know about it and sign up (even if they dont get the rules until AFTER they sign)

Damned living out of the play area

If police can mistake table legs for sawn-off shotguns and kill innocent people then mistaking a toy gun for a real gun isn't too big a leap. I would say its as much about the body stance, pulling something concealed out of your jacket and taking aim. Still, I was only joking. Like the game says, a good assassin won't be detected except by their victim, and only after the killing.

hmmm lets examine this

America has the world highest rate of deaths from guns compared to the rest ofthe world, heck even for world war two . but lets put this aside. Gun Law and Gun use are part of the culture.

Britian has not had nor has the same gun culture as America .

Im sitting on the fence. here is my view

Freedom

I should be allowed to have freedom. Freedom to do anything that I wish or choose. However. I should not be allowed to have freedoms if those freedoms remove the right and privilege of another person to experience them.[1]

Fun

The game is fun and harmless

Gun.

The real things are not fun and harmless they are serious and damaging [2]

People

People are wary of crime and guns and terror do not react well to Fun and Guns ( see 1 and 2 ) .

Police
No matter how well you train them the Police are People and they know about Guns but they dont treat them as Fun.

Culture

In the UK ( as a generalised view based upon my own experiences ) we are not experienced in everyday gun handling, awareness and use. So people apparently using a weapon in a public ( see people) place will alarm them ( see Police ) causing them to call the Police ( see ... oh, err you get that one right!) who will not treat this as Fun ( yep see that one again )

So in hindsight .. yes and no ...

I loved Killer and I love this sort of game. I realise thought that Fun, Gun, Police, People and Culture currently will not enable me to play it without my or other peoples freedoms being limited.

[1] this is a complex and emotive subject .. but i digressed.
[2] unless used in purely competive sports which do not impinge upon [1]

The point is our police wouldnt have the initial knee jerk pull a gun and shoot reaction a US cop might have because simply...they cant can they. No police officer is going to call in an armed unit once the player (who has been briefed extremely well by the organisers) throws the pistol to the police, explains the situation and goes home with a ticking off.

The US police point is also mute because they never had any trouble so the argument here is how ours would react, see above! Its a 3 week game in which everyone who enters knows the rules. If you see someone walking along with an obvious water pistol do you immediately phone the police? Give people more credit! Im petty sure somewhere in the rules as someone said you cant just run around firing, it has to be done properly.

Im defending it so much because its the first thing to come along in a long time that might actually offer a real alternative to all our other run of the mill distractions!

Did you see the pictures of the table leg and a shotgun in the same bag? Would YOU be able to tell the difference, when you've been told that it's a gun and it's pointing at you?

Yeah right.....
