I also thought it might be a good idea to continue the smoking discussion in this new thread because i'm getting bored from having to go to the second page and then gettting thru those millions of messages.

I believe that smokers shouldn't be forced out into the cold, that's not fair. Also I don't believe that non-smokers should be subjected to a smoky atmosphere. More importantly I believe that non-smokers computers shouldn't have to go through that, I've cleaned 3 years of tobacco stains off my monitor when I bought my computer v.1 off my mum and it wasn't pleasant. I know it's not going to be to that scale for this weekend.
However on a final note, if they've got air conditioning that'll take the smoke straight up and away then I don't think that the smokers should need to move }:-):

Say_Ten,
Methinks thou art talking out of thine arse regarding air conditioning!
If you had been following the discussion you would have heard that they only help. Besides, are the smokers going to raise their heads and exhale upwards everytime? I dont think so!
Ban it from the gameplay rooms!

we have had 11 votes so far the top option is:
A seperate room within the venue should be set up for the smokers. (5)

Hey, no need to get abusive. Besides I've seen some very good smoke clearing air conditioning. Mind you I'd doubt they'd have that there as this thing could open doors on springs.
Besides I voted seperate room but I'm just saying that we should take everything into account. It's attitudes like yours young Squire that don't help. I don't know young people today!

Fair enough, given that fact all the smokers can bugger off elsewhere then. He he, I don't actually smoke by the way...

Awwwwww, shucks... some1 does care about us http://www.multiplay.org/ubb/smile.gif

quote:
Also I don't believe that non-smokers should be subjected to a smoky atmosphere.

So the only sensible option imho is to have a seperate room like others have suggested.

quote:
More importantly I believe that non-smokers computers shouldn't have to go through that

To tell the truth, at home i go outside to smoke whatever the weather. now my brother in law, smokes indoors... you can run your finger down the side of the monitor and it leaves an indent in the tar... it really is sickening, and besides, theres nothing more satisfying than having a nice clean machine http://www.multiplay.org/ubb/smile.gif
Right, back to the problem... is there actually any facilitys we could use for smoking ? aka the small room away from groups of psychotic game playing nuts ?
is the bar really an alternative ? remember, its still near gamers and some of those gamers may be non-smokers (and yes, Q2 players have as much rights as everyone else :P)
(on a side note, the only Q2 players that would have benefitted from smoking being banned unles at the bar at Insomnia2 would have been the AQ2'ers who where stuck WAY back in 'annex2' :P)
so the question is, does Swindon FC have a spare room they don't mind sacrificing to a bunch of crazed nuts ?....
'cos ill be f'ked if im going outside http://www.multiplay.org/ubb/smile.gif
although saying that, i guess a breath of fresh air would be good after sitting in a hall of 300+ or so smelly people :P
just as a smoker, i want to say one final thing, smokers have rights too... dont make us freeze our balls off at 4am :P
and another final thing...

quote:
Besides, are the smokers going to raise their heads and exhale upwards everytime? I dont think so!

At Insomnia2, whilst smoking away with 2 non-smokers next to me, i did my best to avoid spewing the smoke anywhere near them to the point where i was tilting my head back and blowing smoke upwards over my own head
balala, anyway..... im waffling...

Good idea as long as people stick to the room rule.
As for cleaning my computer, i run the bugger with no side on anyway so there is a load of cat fur and all sorts of crap in there anyway http://www.multiplay.org/ubb/smile.gif

Smoking has been banned from the main arena. We have no plans to have a separate networked room for smokers, rather to try and get them an additional sheltered space to go and smoke when they need to.

Ok , your in a middle of a game of say Unreal Tourney..then suddenly the dreded nicotine urge hits you...still legging it to the other persons base you scramble to get your ciggies out of you pocket.......cool just picket up a rocket launcher.....heading into their base.....you stop dead in your tracks , realising how much you want a ciggy you look at the flag , you look at your ciggerette knowing youll have to go outside or at least move to smoke it...damn it head shot....Now that wouldnt of happened it you could just light up!!!
As long as the surrounding people dont mind i think we should be allowed to smoke, but i dont mind if i do have to move im just mentioning what effect it could have on game play.

Imagine if you simply didn't have those Nicotine urges? You could devote your full time and concentration to fragging and flag grabbing. Maybe you should think about extending your life a bit and quit smoking?
If you will to live is too weak, try going to your GP and telling them you want to quit, and get yourself on the patch for the weekend, then you can have all the Nicotine you want without having to light up or go outside in the cold. Other options to the patch are Nicorette Gum and inhalers that look like fags if you must suck on something.
Something else to consider, especially for the more financially strapped smokers out there, is to fire up your calulator (Start > Run > calc) and put down how many packs you smoke a day. Multiply this number by what it costs for a pack of fags. Next, multiply this number by 365, the result will be what you're spending each year on fags. Now think about a really kick ass computer system you could buy with that money right now. Some of you heavier smokers could most likely buy a kick ass set of wheels. It's kind of sad when you put it in perspective.

I smoke, but i don't like other peoples smoke so a seperate room would be ideal. Plus, if we're allowed, I don't mind poppin out at 4am either because:
a) my eyes will need a rest
b) fresh air is good for you
c) legs need stretchin
