Ive just signed up for Nildram ADSL and now i need a Router and Modem in 1. I think ive narrowed it down to 2, but i cannot decide between these 2 at all :|

Any help/experince/ramblings would be appreciated:

Contestant 1: NetGear DG814
http://www.insight.com/uk/apps/productpresentation/index.php?product_id=NGENA033IF

Contestant 2: D-Link DSL-500
http://www.insight.com/uk/apps/productpresentation/index.php?product_id=DLKNA02504

The router must be from Insight as it will come off a business account.

Cheers in advance,

Cerberus

Can you disable the NAT firewall on that speedtouch pro? The reason I ask is because I already have a Linksys 4 port router that I use for cable.
When I move house I will have to get ADSL so have been looking into this.
Actually, I may aswell ask a very general question, what would folks recommend as a good ADSL modem that outputs to ethernet (not USB), no need for fancy features needed as these are already provided in my Linksys cable router. Want a solid performer that doesn't cost the earth

Ow well ive decided and ordered the D-Link DSL 500 as it seems the most feature packed and a very good price £112. dslsource.co.uk seem to have discontinued the Speed touch Pro but i dont know if that means theyve stopped making em or not.

AFAIK all adsl modems are usb, thats one reason i went for a router/modem in 1.

its deny by default on the firewall ... you only map through what you need. The speedtouch pro has built in NAT and/or PPPoA to PPTP bridge and native PPPoE so it'll do fine :)

i'd use it for NAT anyway and lose the linksys :/

six and half a dozen which I disable I suppose, I could disable all the shiney functions on the Linksys so it just becomes and over priced switch.

Say what you like about the linksys, but it has never cause me bother, was easy to set up, nice and secure. It makes a well easy to set up DHCP for my LAN parties :D

I ment leave it at home (so the wife can access the web on her PC) and I take the linksys to use as DHCP for LAN parties.
But I take your point that the alcatel has all the shiney functions I could need.

The D-Link DSL one i ordered seems to have more features than the speed touch pro and only cost like £10 more.
