Ok now ive played it and i think most of the 35 people who played allegiance at i11 agree its amazing can we have a regular get together?

I know theres been talk of it but is there any servers we could play on and maybe get it up to 32v32

is it true that its possible to get a 128 player allegiance going? also it were short of some people can we play publicly so we get a 64 player going

[DBDUK]J
24th June 2002, 16:39
Hell yeah! I'm up for regular games - so will most of [DBDUK].

If we could get the organisation together, this thing could ROCK!

What connection speed is it limited by? Is it laggy like Jumpgate for modems? That would limit our players...

But I'm not complaining, 2 sessions of Allegiance a week until i12 sounds like a kick ass idea! :)

I played on 56k on Allegience for ages its silky smooth for the most part :)

Joey[kins]
24th June 2002, 18:01
unfortunately the biggest game you can get now is 64 people (actually it's 58 due to some server hax's when in 64 player mode)

and a server to play it on?

Joey[kins]
26th June 2002, 08:54
there's plenty of available servers - i'll pick one and we'll join in with the "professionals" for now... stay tuned though for announcements about a potential mpukserver

OverlordRob
26th June 2002, 17:19
Ok im still having problems lpaying. The original one which was caused by zonealarm has gnoe (thanks fearhawk) but now when i go to join lobby it asks for my callsign then cant connect..i have SOVroute running and its got two servers on it from the server it asks for at the beginning

afty
26th June 2002, 18:23
Are you using NAT or a firewall?

OverlordRob
26th June 2002, 20:07
NAT and firewall - but firewalls not causing problems any more

Joey[kins]
26th June 2002, 20:41
ok - you should be connecting through free games and not have sovroute running, and you'll probably find that if you reboot your gateway you can connect...

afty
26th June 2002, 21:04
There are some ports you need to forward if you are running certain NAT servers.

[DBDUK]J
26th June 2002, 22:09
Thank-god for a german fan site :)

To run Allegiance Free Games through a NAT/Router you need to forward ports 2300-2400 to your computer and of course open them up on any firewall you have running.

Inbound, and Outbound btw :)

If you have a really fussy network as well, you need to allow:
47624 TCP Outbound

So all ports are:
47624 TCP Outbound
2300-2400 TCP Inbound
2300-2400 TCP Outbound
2300-2400 UDP Inbound
2300-2400 UDP Outbound

So on a NAT, 2300-2400 forwarding...

Off to enjoy what I've set up now ;)
(o, and make sure you DON'T have SOV running like Afty said)

Thanks for posting that info, i'm using a router so that was really helpfull.

Is there any way this thread can be made to stay at the top of as many forums as possible so that the maximum amount of people see it?

afty
27th June 2002, 14:07
I think there be another port or two - it's the standard MS gaming DirectX ports (there's one around 6000 I have bound, not sure if I actually need it or not).

Give them a try, if it still dont work, do a google or MS search for DirectX networking ports.

why dont u guys play on the alleg free zone there are new patches and stuff to find em go to http://www.alleg.net/ u will find all the new stuff there just follow the instructions luscious ornage i ahve seen him/she there he needs a little help against the vets tho >;p ..................

The Sandman

also how do i join your lan games cable modem here so np with lag pding@blueyonder.co.uk

Joey[kins]
27th June 2002, 17:10
when we play online we use the free games option, not the lan games... make sure you've got the switcher downloaded (available here (http://www.allegiancehq.org/downloads/downloads.asp), then point your game at the recommended servers and you should be auto-updated as much as you need to be...

OverlordRob
27th June 2002, 21:15
unless ur me where running the auto switcher SOV and not runining them in every combination still doesnt let u log on - and ive spokent o some1 else who doesnt use a NAT having the same problem

[DBDUK]J
28th June 2002, 09:03
I assume Rob you downloaded the 1.25 patch and let the thing auto update itself?

afty
28th June 2002, 09:46
It sounds definitely like a port-forwarding problem.

There is a range of ports you need to forward through NAT to your own box, for testing purposes I suggest you start with 1 -> 65500 and see if that works.

If not, then it aint a port forwarding problem.

How about scheduling the meets, having two teams abd tallying hte wins every week with a game report after, the site could include downloads allegiance information and other such stuff.

Sort of like a community. Well just a suggestion.

Hey Caution...long time no see (Wizzo2 from the zone many moons ago). The next event is being held at Newbury Racecourse over 9-12 August. A 4 day monster and if i11 was anything to go by we'll have some epic Allegiance LAN games.

Check out the main site @ http://www.multiplay.co.uk for more info on i12 and to signup. The i12 page is right at http://www.multiplay.co.uk/i12

Hope to see you there, or at one of our online gatherings soon ;)

afty

Its at Newbury racecourse, about 4 times a year.

see www.multiplay.co.uk for more details (i12 is the name of the event) - bear in mind its a gaming event so there will be quite a bif of ultimate frisbee / football / other computer games during the day, and Allegiance tends to come around later on in the evening for a couple of games, its not a dedicated Allegiance event.

Also, there are quite a few pilots there who know what they are doing, but almost none who have played online, so all the favourite tips/tricks (like bomber-ramming, grabbing a HTT when your own base is about to be captured, intricacies of what weps are best vs. what ships etc.) are not known yet by most pilots.

We do have a team pick / brief / debrief after each mission though, were the team commanders try to spend a minute or two explaining why the won or lost (in the pilots terms) to educate people, and perhaps offering a few hints like the above when relevant.

On the whole it might be a little frustrating as your team mates will not be as good as those online, but the friendliness is great, there is no lag at all and people are willing to learn (and there are quite a few ppl getting damn good at dogfighting, and mass-naniting is catching on now too).

Spread the word among the online UK lads (I dont play enough to know em out of game) - in fact someone was talking about hiring out a smaller venue in the midlands which has two rooms, especially for players to go down and play games like Allegiance / Renegade etc. - big team games.

Joey[kins]

naaaasty_one might be joinging us too :smokin:

now we just need kevdude so he can kill everyone

ive been trying to play online but every time i try and enter the lobby of freegames my pc just hangs...got no fire walls, so im not sure what im doing wrong

Templar, head here http://www.allegiancehq.org/ and get the switcher, and flick over to the private server, it will have all the newest updates and core files that are needed to play online today.

Ya know, if kevdude does go, even though he uses NGRU tags in Dungeon siege, i will still have to kick the crap out of him :P he irritates me.
Well, if there are people needin tips, i know nast will prolly be there, and if any others from the UK that i play with often turn up, we will be happy to give some tips. Currently im not flyin so well cos i was out of alleg for so long, but i used to have a command win rate of about 70% ish. *sigh* ahh the old days.
