Errrm, may be a daft question, but do games have to be the ORIGINAL games? No Warez? Best just to check for the benefit of those evil souls who have a 50/50 ratio of warez/original games - Of which I am not one I stress!

And would it be a good idea to remove any pornography that the dirty little pornography collectors may have? - Of which I am not one I stress!

It's never legal to have warez, and most people will have the odd copy of a game they're not supposed to. But if you don't flaunt it - it ain't gonna get you in trouble.
All though i think if you like a game - then buy it, it helps fund the makers so they can make even better games...BLAH BLAH BLAH..

I agree everyone's got some warez and will probably get some more during the course of the weekend. Of course it can't be officially sanctioned but it's also not the job of Multiplay UK to report you to the authorities as far as I'm aware. However there's no point putting a big neon sign up saying that you've got Warez. I wouldn't worry about the porn, that's probably not illegal as long as you don't share it so underagies can view it, then you'd be breaching distribution of porn laws etc. etc.
But as Gecko said, if you like a game then it's best to buy it to support that company. Well that and the fact you get a nice new manual to sniff *ahem*

AFAICR, no-one has ever been kicked out of an event for warez, but I suspect the staff would take a fairly dim view if you were caught selling any.

Multiplay UK operate a no-tolerance policy of Porn and "Warez" (pirated software) at our events. If we observe public display of pornography at the event, such as watching the material on your PC, you will be removed from the event without refund. Warez is a bit more difficult, as it is perfectly legal to have a backup copy of your own games. Given how quickly CDs can become scratched, it is perfectly reasonable to use "gold backups" and keep the originals in a safe place.
Whilst we cannot look on people's hard drives directly to check for warez, we can check to see if any such material is being shared on the network. If you are caught sharing any illegal material (either porn or warez) in network neighbourhood then you will also be asked to leave the event with no refund.
This may all sound harsh, but we simply cannot afford to have any of this going on at our events. It would both jeopardise the sponsors positions and our own credibility. LANs are about playing games, so stick to that at the event and you should be fine.

Hmm... that policy is a rather different view from that implemented at Insomnia (Version 1!), where the staff were more than willing to flog people CDs to burn off Tribes. I believe that from 30 copies to start with, everyone had a copy of Tribes by the end of Sunday http://www.multiplay.org/ubb/wink.gif

The Multiplay guys may have been selling blank CDs for people to use to backup their own files, but I'm sure they would not condone any copying of copyright material.
Might be worthwhile thinking before posting to a public message board in future.

y r some people trying to turn this event n2 something that can b compromised, as a gathering of pirates??? everyone knows the legality that wizzo is talking about, so just stick to the rules, and everyone will b ok. we r totally getting off of the subject of what these events r for, to meet other gamers, have fun, competitions. if everyone remembers that, this this board will not have anymore posts, about questionable behavior.
everyone have fun, and i will c u all there.

Sale of CD-R discs is not illegal... the use of them in unlicensed copying of software is however. LANs are about games, not piracy or porn!

Wish I'd never asked! I got a nice pay rise so all the games I'll be playing will be legal - I only need HalfLife.
And I agree - If you like the game, buy it. Now that server side protection is in place - you don't have a great deal of choice! Trust me - it will become the norm!
