Ok you know hl1.9 and cs1.4, well Im running both and want to make a LAN only server, I have set up all the cfg files but my problem is in the loading. The damn thing still trys to download the new security anti cheat patches and authenticate the WON id. it takes some 10 mins for it to time out then the server works fine, how can i make the thing stop checking for security patches and authenticating the WON id?

i have tryed:

-nomaster

and got nowhere.

help!

try -insecure

that should stop it, thats how we set up the dedicated at Dreamlan.

i put "insecure" in the server.cfg and whilst not instant it took only 30seconds or so to timeout which is by far more realistic.

It was waiting a while before timing out

eg: authenitcation WON id
timed out..


but it appears to have fixed itself.

me again, i know people are probably fed up with my lack of skillz, but my little server went on a trip to a LAN party last week and have been talking to a few of those who came to find out what they thought and they told me a secret about my server:

pull down console
type "sv_cheats"
comes back with sv_cheats is 0
type "sv_cheats 1"
type "sv_cheats"
comes back with sv_cheats is 1

I know this isn't a secret really but because "sv_cheats 0" is in the server.cfg I thought it was unchangable being a server side command. I tried it myself (without logging in as admin ofcourse) so can anyone tell me how to make people unable to change it?

I like a fair game, which evidently the last LAN wasn't.

All suggestions taken.

Brain,

unless you are on the server console ( or running the listen server ) none else can change the sv_cheats option.

unless the server at the last lan do was already set at 1, then you are safe.

Only ppl with rcon access or console access can change it from 0 to 1.

set in your config:

sv_cheats 0

dont listen to them if they told you to do sv_cheats 1.

all commands are changed by '0' or '1', 1 being yes/on

what they were telling you to do was allow cheats on the server.

CLICK HERE (http://www.purecheats.com/index.php/cheats/PC/Half-Life:%20Counterstrike) for a random website i found for more explanation, or just do a google search on 'sv_cheats' to read up about it on other pages.

Basically you want it to set it to '0'

N.B. This doesn't stop cheats like ogc. sv_cheats, are the cheats available through the half-life engine.

BTW make you config READ ONLY, so if any1 does get access to the server, they cannot change anything through console, and you will have to do it manually in the config, and resave it.

I agree with everything you have all said.. and taken a look at Brains' HLDS config and some of the documentation on admin_mod.

Regarding that insecure thing Bootz, I spoke to Valve and they said that it had something to do with the Valve Anti-Cheat. I'm just puzzled by it all. However, as soon as i mentioned admin_mod, they all suddenly stopped being helpful and and told me that they dont help with 3rd party software. How nice..

Anyway, I will keep looking for a solution as thats some serious security problem youve got :)

The insecure thing relates to the fact that HLDS will download it's own *anti-cheat* modules from valve, and apply.

They are due out soon, if not now.

if happens on server start, so that the latest cheat fixes etc are grabbed.. :-)

Otherwise, the server will show itself as 'insecure'

Sorry i may be underestimating your skills but along with insecure and the master one you should also have sv_lan 1.

it's there, must be a bug in HL1.9 as i re-installed completely and it still happens.
