View Full Version : Are we gonna leave UT1 behind?

wooh decent forum at last. Must add content!

When UT2003 comes out, are we all going to leave UT1 or are we still going to play that and treat it as a seperate game?

I'd hate to see the old bugger die after facing worlds consumed 2 1/2 long years of my life :(

that surely depends on how the game itself plays - some follow ups feel like the natural upgrade to the last one and thus it follows that everyone goes from one game to the next - like an uber patch I guess. However if there are a lot of changes that not all the hardcore UT players like then the UT leagues both online and at LANs will almost certainly continue until the demand is too low to warrant them.

In conclusion its basically a case of what the punters want to play.

I think what vuzzy babes is saying is very true. From all the media i've looked at it seems that it is going to be an upgrade on a proven formula.

Besides im sure a stable map like facing worlds will find its way into UT2003 ;) i mean look how far 2 fort has gone!

hmm will see how it goes.

I'd like to build a decent UT2003 box but I'll wait for the required hardware prices to drop a little and the community to get bigger before I jump in. Perhaps I'm getting old, but the latest, fastest stuff isnt as interesting as it used to be :(

The GHz barrier has been broken, so has the broadband one. Now what?

I'm glad I took the step from Voodoo 3 to Radeon :)

UT will become like Unreal - rarely played except by the hardcore or by students who can't afford to upgrade their hardware (having already blown their student loan on copious amounts of alcohol and weed).

are you speaking from experience on both parts?

And funnily enough, I'm playing Unreal again just for old times sake. I even had to put my old Voodoo2 card in otherwise it plays in software mode.

2 all muppets,

Unreal tournament has the most natural way of movement, sizes and guns.

All the other versions has an not natural feeling with most weapons, thats my opion. Mm at least less!

I've played them all but its certainly not better. Maybe specatular but nothing more than that.

I am an old time user of the sniper rifle. This weapon has the best realistic shooting experience of al the weapons i now.

Only quake has the lasergun that comes in the neighbourgh, but it has an certain slownis (some like instagib with ut if you shoot)

ok every weapon (game) has an certain dergree of skill. My opion is thats the best game reaches real life exerience!

You can make al kind of exotic weapons but if it isnt like real life its nothing more than an not real experience!

THere is no better engine. Most realistic movement. Absolute real life weapons like sniperrifle (give me an other one Mmm?) and more.

Unrealtournament rules.

(eh and i try all the new ones!)

if UT3 presses the right buttons then I will have no qualms about moving over to it 100%.

the danger is that a lot of players will need to upgrade their pc's to be able to play it.
they are being very tight lipped about the actual min amount to run.

for me the key features need to be:

- instagib back to how UT ran
- trans back to unlimited number
- sniper back to normal - no bleeding smoke ffs
- no silly off the wall dodging poop - or triple jump nonsense
- seeable players

with ut2k4 they sucked all the fun out the game in favour of eliteness.
prt of the best fun for UT was spammy weapons - like 6 rockets not 3, flak that bounced around for ages and ripper blades flying fecking every which way (and usually killing yerself).
yes spam - BUT with real skill weapons too to help balance it out.
that's why UT was so damn popular, easy to get into and FUN for all skill levels.

so basically I hope it turns out to be fUnrealTournament]|[

In Quake2 I turned off all the textures, all walls were brown, the sky blue, all players bright red and all projectiles neon green. No shadows, decals, everything was equally light. You couldn't get confused or miss anything there.
UT 99 is not as drastic as that, but still ok.
But the maps in UT 2003 and 2004 are full with crap: Grass, trees, stones, everything has round surfaces, etc. You see everything there, just not the opponents. So the reason for me why I don't like those versions are exactly the graphics. And judging from the screenshots of UT 3 it will be just the same.
If I want to look at nice landscapes I go outside or watch a movie. If I start a first person shooter I want to fight vs other players and not have my screen overloaded by 500000 polygons.

Erm well, in Assrats defense, that's the reason I don't like many other games.

The reason why UT1 has done so well and is still going strong 8 years later is the pure simplicity of it and. Granted, it would of been impossible to produce it/games with all the bells and whistles, grass, flies, sparkly waterfalls etc, etc but this is why I don't tend to play many other games.

I see someone in UT1, I kill them. Simple as, hardly any other distractions. In UT2 and other games with more prettier graphics, I find it harder to spot someone. And I have 20/20 vision.

After all, Pacman owned for years.

It's a fairly known fact that sequels often fail to live up to it's hyped expectations! And please note that I said OFTEN, and not ALWAYS, just as I said that the new UT (whatever its called) will PROBABLY just be some good looking crap, and not that I was certain that would be the case!!! Odds are against the new UT any way you look at it (except for its visual parts of course)!! :v:v

I will be getting the new version when it comes out just as I got UT 2004 which I like and play play at Lans and the some time's on line.

But I try to play UT every day as its not just a good game to me.
I may be off the point here but I play it because of you Lot its a great comunity which I dont find with other games.

I have a fair collection of games but with out the comunity I find here and in the past at TrufF they will only ever be games.

So I'll be playing UT till the :awesome: people I Know and like dont show up on the servers any more and if by chance they move to the new game ill move as well as much as I love UT its the people that make me come on line night after night to be shot.;)

I've not been playing UT on-line for very long, but I totally agree with you...it's not just about the game for me either. (The fact UT's a cracking game helps though!) ;)
