OK why when I try and do a full refresh in gamespy on my adsl line through my winroute NAT does it work for about 20 seconds then suddenly all the servers start timing out?
I then leave it for about 5 minutes and it starts working again
I assume that either winroute or my isp (nildram) is thinking its being ping spammed and as such is 0wning me but does anyone know how to stop it?
Couldnt' find any setting in winroute that would do it

I get this all the time actually, BTo + USB + winroute. All DNS querys stop working. Aint found a fix yet tho.

Usually its rock solid stable
just during a gamespy update
tis most odd

thats because gamespy is sending literaly 1000s of UDP packets all of a sudden. UDP being connectionless will just be rembered in the NAT table for 5 minutes or so, and when the NAT table is full it just has to drop the packets, until theres space in the nat table again.
DNS is UDP unless the query is more than a certain size I seem to recall

yep... refresh less servers or use a linux box where u can modify the size of the NAT table (it only takes a kernel recompile)
bgh, this is a known prob with older versions of winroute, this can be fixes by getting the latest ver of winroute,
if u look in ur error log do u get spam like;
[02/Apr/2002 00:19:29] nat: G:0 - host 192.168.1.5 denied: connection limit reached
[02/Apr/2002 00:19:29] nat: G:0 - host 192.168.1.5 denied: connection limit reached
[02/Apr/2002 00:19:30] nat: G:0 - host 192.168.1.5 denied: connection limit reached

[02/Apr/2002 00:19:30] nat: G:0 - host 192.168.1.5 denied: connection limit reached
[02/Apr/2002 00:19:34] nat: G:0 - host 192.168.1.5 denied: connection limit reached
[02/Apr/2002 00:19:34] nat: G:0 - host 192.168.1.5 denied: connection limit reached
[02/Apr/2002 00:19:35] nat: G:0 - host 192.168.1.5 denied: connection limit reached
[02/Apr/2002 00:19:36] nat: G:0 - host 192.168.1.5 denied: connection limit reache
becuz this is what happens when u use gamespy and stuff as it owns older vers of winroute.

OK so the new version allows me to set maximum number of entries in the nat table per IP, the question is can I set it to 5000? or however many servers I want to refresh
Bearing in mind that default is 128
What is the performance hit?

play with it and see. Assuming its not running on a 486 with 8mb of ram id guess anything sensible couldnt be too bad.
