View Full Version : i10 Sold Out!

MPUK News
16th March 2002, 18:14
It was only a matter of time. The phones have been ringing off the hook for the past week and as a result of the frenzy of payments i10 is now sold out!

We're now operating a waiting list for any spaces that come available. If you wish to be put on this list then please ring us on (023) 8024 3137. We hope to be able to open up a few more places in the run-up to the event, so it's well worth putting your name down on this list.

Had enough people been signed up and paid at the beginning of the month the new stand would have been chosen. As it turned out tho it was just far too big a risk to go for the grand stand (which would involve a ****load of extra expenditure), so we had to stay at the Berkshire. People's own fault for leaving it to the last minute to pay.

im #4 on the waiting list :e so if u cant get a lift (HAHHAHA@YOU) please tell multiplay so i can steal ur place.

Cuz im on the waiting list, does it mean that if a CS'er pulls out that i'll have to sit in the CS section? or can i be with my friends in UT section still? :e

I have to agree with Wizzo here, if you guys don't let us know well in advance if you're coming or not, then we have no idea whether to go ahead and grab a new venue (in this case the larger building) for the event. As it is, because of the low signup at the beginning and everyone waiting until now to pay, we were stuck with the Berkshire stand.

Next time please sign up and let us know well in advance if you want to come.

I was waiting for details of the discount scheme before I signed up, was origanally told it would be before i10 (i think).

Having said that I think an encentive to sign up early would have helped, e.g. start the price at £50 and it goes up by £5 a month or something like that. I would certainly pay at the £50 mark if that was the case.

I'm not bothered about not breaking the 1000 player mark, cause I can understand that people just can't throw money about, especially since Newbury is in the middle of nowhere, getting transport is made much harder, thus spending £70 and not being able to get a refund if no transport can be found is a bit hard on the pocket. Ah well, glad I paid months ago.

Anyway, Berkshire owns, aslong as there is sleeping space.

aye i totally agree with u all and fully understand the reason, however, 1000 + would have owned!!

I thought thats what the "long" list was for?
its taken me ages to raise the money and organise the transport. then i hear on irc, that its full.
I wasn't informed that u had "lost" 150places, and henceforth thought that Monday would be an ideal time to sign up, with 2 weeks to go, and with the peperations sorted.
it appears i was wrong
I assume from the news-letters that MPUK has a mailing list.

Im gonna type now a quick message:

"I10 will not be able to make the Proposed 1000 Places, due to health and Safety Reasons, Please check the website http://www.multiplay.co.uk for more details and make sure that your Payment is promt to garuntee a place." - Took me 90s to type and im not exactly a good typer!!

I thought that MPUK would have learned from past Lans, that signups are greatest in the 3 weeks before the event, it seems i was wrong. Perhaps next time you ought to have more faith in people who say they are coming.... or at least inform them!!!

P.S: is there somewhere i can check the waiting list?? if there's 50+ ppl its not worth bothering with

Sorry NV, wud have told ya sooner m8 but thought u knew. I think he is right tho that an email was sent out to all those on the mailing list to say about reduction in places as now many ppl will b gutted bout not coming. Like ive been hyped since beginning of Feb and still am as mnay ppl must b. But for NV to have to work extra and organise lifts to afford to go i think its wrong there was no email sent out.
Not holding nething against MPUK cuz i still wub u- sure u cant squeeze a few more people in?

alas health and safety stops us fitting any more people it, wizzo already "found" another 60 places we didn't think we'd have (it looked for a while like the event might have to be 810 people)

we'd love to make the event large enough to accomodate everyone, but unfortuanately the only way to do that would be to move to the grandstand and to do that required 1100 people definate or mpuk would stand to lose a lot of money, the decision had to be made at the start of march when only 400 people were paid and signups were lagging behind the trend of our previous highest that was only 840

/me looks for some punctuation towards the end of BGH's last statement

basically... we did warn everyone that this would happen... there were email spams and news posts and irc announcements all saying that if people didn't pay up soon, we'd have to limit the size, and later saying that we were down to the last 60 or so places...

if everyone didn't insist on leaving it so late to pay we'd probably be in the grandstand with 1200 people, but after making a loss on most events at newbury mpuk can't afford to make the switch without a guarantee of breaking even (for a change)

Wizzo
17th March 2002, 18:55
I sent no less than 3 emails to those signed up who had yet to pay, telling them the situation and that they really had to get moving asap. You can't accuse us of not informing you... we did absolutely everything we could to inform everyone about the change.

lo Netvyper..
in fact im in pretty much exactly the same situation
everything was sorted for me 2 go with some rl m8s, and meet up with loads of other h0m0z ther..
I purposely chose not to pay until close to the event because i wanted to be certain it was going to go ahead - with my rl m8s and all.
I was under the impression that once u signed up, it was pretty sure u were gonna get a place.
I dont check the multiplay site often, and i didnt see the news on the site that less spaces were now available.
I recieved no email notification of ne kind regarding these developments, and upon ringing up to pay was told that i had lost my chance.
://///////////
Ofc now im on the waiting list. #24 or summat.. thinkin ther is v.little chance of me getting in
great :/ :( :/  :(

If some rl mates are going... why dont you go as a spectator and share one of their computers?

Joey

We did post warnings via email, IRC, the main website (and therefore the news comments forum) all saying that firstly if people didn't pay early we would not make the move to the grandstand and the event size may have to be reduced, then that we were staying in the berkshire stand and the size was definitely reduced, then came a warning about being down to 100 free spaces...

waiting close to the event to make sure it was going ahead, whilst prudent with some events, is not appropriate for Multiplay LAN parties. The closest an event has been cancelled was NwebLAN last January which was abandoned 6 weeks before the event was to go ahead

hopefully you will be able to get in, as there's usually a large number of people who pay up, and then can't make it due to transport problems... but we did warn everyone... if you didn't get an email notification and you are definitely on the mpuk mailing list, I'd recommend that you email Wizzo to check that something hasn't gone spectacularly wrong on one of the servers

i assume im on the multiplay mailing list, as i recieve regular spam ('news' :p: ) from u, but i've recieved no emails since a general news mail 2 weeks or so ago.
as netvyper also claims he recieved no email, and as i sed i have 3 other rl m8s who had signed up and also not known anything about the shortage of spaces, maybe ther is something wrong with one of the servers ? :/
fs if i had recieved a mail i would have seen it straight away as i have a hotmail address (ie little or no delay in emails) and use msn messenger (ie notification when i get an email), and hence would have paid incely :(

*moan* *whinge* etc etc :>
/me camps by the phone for the next week awaiting a call

I think thats your problem, I'm with hotmail, and the span filters chucked Multiplays messages into the junk mail.

that may well have been the problem, altho i check my junk mail at least a couple of times/week neway, as hotmail has a tendancy of chucking in mail which isnt junk into my junk mail box.. however multiplay mails are normally not subject to this treatment (i put em on my safe list or summat)
