pack it very securely (and i mean very).

Make sure it can't move round in it's packaging, it is well padded and the outer box is sturdy enough to take a kick.
I would think something like the box the case came in, with added bubblewrap in all the empty spaces, then possibly more bubblewrap around the outside of the box, and another box over the bubblewrap.

Basically make sure it is protected well enough to take a drop of a couple of feet, and to take getting knocked about in the van etc.

Also make sure you get it insured by the courier and that you follow any particular packaging instructions they have for it (ask them how they recommend packing it, then go a step or 3 better).

Hopefully you won't have any problems, but if it is well packed according to what the courier recommends and insured, if it does get damaged you will be able to claim compensation.

The whole idea being that it's padded to prevent sharp shocks (such as it being dropped on a corner) from cracking/denting the case and knocking cards free

Also take your hard drive with you in the car/bus as that is the most likely thing to get screwed up imho.

Also see here (http://forums.multiplay.co.uk/showthread.php?threadid=6735)

Yeah - as werewolf said... make sure it's packed well...

A friend of mine is still waiting for compensation from the courier who mashed his PC - all the front controls on his baybus were snapped off....

That's one reason I'm taking my PC myself...

Another thing to think about is to take off your CPU Heatsink and fan as i have heard that in transport the whole of the ZIF socket can be ripped off (especially if you have a copper heatsink).

if i was going to courrier my pc i wold probably take all the peices apart and spend 20 mins putting it back together at the other end than risk it getting mashed abot as parcel force decide to have a game of footy with ur pc :)

Amtrack, TNT, Fed-ex in the states

a courier is a company who deliver large items (or small items if you wish) at fast rates (ie next day if you pay them enough)

they're also an alternative to royal mail if you dont want your parcel to go with the rest of the crap.

they're *supposed* to habdle things with care but, although much much more safer then sending it through normal post, dont take any chances if you send something delicate like a monitor through them

why dont u just take a laptop, keyboard and mouse with you, then rent a monitor while you are there. u can get wicked laptops that im sure have good video cards in. just a thought. I'm just guna put my pc in ma dad's car anyway :p:

talk about reviving a dead post!

if i had a laptop better than my PC i would do - but to buy a 1.8Ghz with 256MB of DDR ram and a 64MB GF3 might be a little more expensive than couriering my pc down ;)
