im planning on comming to the event and ive read rules about any kind of filesharing which is fine, but i just want to check somthing. I have over 2000 mp3s on my machine which ive ripped mostly from my own cds and some ive downloaded.
There wont be any rozzers or anything like that asking to look thru our machines or anything?

We do not actively look through people's machines at the event, but if you are found sharing these, we will be forced to take action.

there is an upload folder that is upload only, ie you can upload to it but not download, so people can up patches we don't have
Its then sorted before being put on the downloadable part of the site

I have loads of CS models and maps that I do wanna share will there be anywhere on the FTP I can put em for people to get???
If not I won't be sharing them through my own PC.

Upload them to the upload folder of the ftp in a nice subfolder clearly marked "Half-life Models" and they shall duly be sorted
The number of people who upload files labelled, sadafa123x.exe straight into the upload dir then complain they don't get sorted it just silly ;)

i wil have file sharing off so this is just a sort of out of interest question but..
do we get in trouble for having a shared folder or is it only trouble if people can download off me. this is because i am on a mac so it would be hard for people to connect to me and even if they worked out how they would not have the privilages to download upload or do anything.

Ok my usual pre-event ftp bitching session.
Can you please actually bother to filter the contents of the FTP server's upload at i10!!! Having to DCC patches around is a complete bitch and it's not nice to have the thought of admins pouncing on you after you send out 50 copies of OFP mega patches ("ooh his switch port is a bit overactive"). Yes I did upload them, no they werent sorted. Yes they did have nice filenames.
Please sort it at i10. I've said this before i8 and before i9 yet nowt seems to happen.
That is all.

Dwarf_Pr0n, when you say you have loads of models and maps, define loads. Are we talking about tens, hundreds or gigabytes of stuff?
Is any of it vital? Or is it just a collection of user created stuff?
The event FTP is primarily for official game patches, maps etc. We will of course let you add stuff like demos, pics etc, but in the case of what you are are suggesting, and the size I think you're talking about, it could be too much. If you are going to be running a server with custom maps and what have you, then fine, but I would suggest that you dont upload more than is necessary.

If theres a patch on the ftp that u need which isnt yet sorted, usually talking to the ftp admins will get it sorted. Well it worked for me at i8

I was at a LAN (I wont say which one) And the rozzers did turn up at 2am when the event had turned into a porn sharing type thing.
Though they werent PC expert rozzers, and were just checking why we were all in a community centre at 2am on sunday morning. Gave a few peeps a bit of a scare though!

The FTP will be properly organised this time - with the latest patches for everything frozen at the versions being used for the tourneys.
There will be a loads of useful and useless gubbins on the FTP too, but I'll start a thread for requests separately.

I have no idea it's my mate that did it. I just do all the forum maintenance (Which can be found here (http://www.cs-network.co.uk/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi) if you wanted to know :)) and file finding.
I'll find out for you though.
