C&C Renegade MP Demo : Opinions

Ok, i've downloaded and played the Multiplayer Demo for C&C Renegade. And i think it rox :D


but there are not many good servers out there :( (lots of laggy ones with llamas on)

If you've played it, just post you're thought on it good or bad.

I quite liked the idea too, although what I didn't like was the stuttering. I don't know if it was just bad coding, or if it was lag, but every so often, my screen would hit about 4 FPS for a second or so.

I know it's not my machine.

Well i was up at 3 in the mroning waiting in line for the demo. I then found a site with it ( courtesy of a link left by Triprotic-Acid ) and left it over night, only to find that an hour after i woke up this morning, when the download was at 95%, it crashed! I am currently downloading it for a second time and i am about 50% though. But if it does crash again, Bowser has kindly offered to put it on CD for me and send it too me ( cheers mate )... Which will probably earn him a couple of pizzas at i10 if i find him!

So, as soon as ive downloaded it and played it il be on here telling you guys my feelings on it. I think it looks really good tho and im glad they released the C&C mode demo instead of SP, C&C mode looks better.

what youre system/OS/connection Catachan?

mine is a GF2Pro, 768Mb ram, Athlon 1Ghz, WinXP, on a 64k ISDN. and it didnt slow up, only lag (which was really obvious when it happened)

Dual 1.2 with GF3 and a gig of ram.

I played another server just now and it ran fine, so it seems that the FPS is controlled by lag.

Lucky people, I got free NTL access, great except disconnect above 2 hours, however every queue is longer than 2 hours!!!! I finally found a mirror server and now have 46% dl at 3.6k a sec (well its better than nothing!!) Went out for the day and get right had the wrong password for redialing!! doh. Still only 4 hours to go now!!

downloaded and played this morning. even with the university 10Mbit LAN connection i get LOADS of lag. Is there a problem with the net code or is it some of the servers?

Well, after 18 hours, im on 95% and 30 mins to go...

Unfortunatley, i have to go out this evening so im not actually gonna get to play it tonight. Balls.

ShadowMan, lots of peole have complained of this. The official advice is make sure the person hosting isnt using a 56K modem.

it is mainly down to the servers, i found one based in germany, which was 32 max players, and played like a dream. Althogh i found a UK one, which was terrible, only 4 of us, but i couldnt move.

Seems to be very hard to find good servers - most aren't dedicated = sh it, and then the rest are on slow servers = sh it, or they're full (= sh it).

Will set up my own dedicated server :-)

Since C&C Renegade wasn't programmed for dual processors it doesn't matter about the 2nd processor it's just gonna sit there doing Windows stuff. Only Quake 3 makes use of a 2nd processor.

Well I just downloaded the Demo, however I went to configure it and it won't use my Voodoo 2 to run it, it demands that I use my Rendition Verite 2200, so it looks like i'm gonna have to wait till I can't afford a new video card! That however didn't stop me entering the compeition to wna copy of the game!!

hehe, voodoo2 :)

its quite suprising how many people still use a vood based gfx card now. The main problem with the voodoo card not working with C&C Renegade is that there is no DX8.0 support for them. Shame really, although you should upgrade your graphics card, you're missing quite a lot on one of those :D

I didn't say it did make a difference, i'm just replying to someone's request of my system.

And FYI there are more games than just Q3 that support SMP.

Oh, and even at 1.2GHz, it still runs Renegade no problem.

Well, i finally downloaded the demo...and can i just say how completely FUN it is!!!

This game is soo good. i still cant believe the 47% mark from PCG UK. Unfortunatley the LAG is quite bad but when played on LAN this game is superb.

Really fun! i cant wait to play it at i10 without any LAG!:D

I'm not interested I only use the 1 processor :)
Q3 is the biggest named game to use it.

though gettin into vehicles can be troublesome

the important thing is that stealth tanks own and that i like it therefore u should all play it solely to keep me happy

Yes that is true.

They really didnt like it. They said it was repetitive ( repetitive repetitive repetitive ) and boring. They also said it was full of bugs and ran like a " two legged dog ".

BUT they did say that " the ill constructed multiplayer...is the only thing that saves this game from abysmal damnation " .

I thought this was game of the month status...but obviously not.

But it has to be said, most of this review was on the Single Player and the bit i was really looking forward to was C&C mode. Needless to say i am very happy with the multiplayer ( on LAN anyway! ). So i10 is looking like a great time to play Renegade.

Just remember that a Games review is just that, a review. It's an opinion of the person writing. Just because they don't like it, doesn't mean other people won't.

Look at Red Faction. Slammed by all and sundry for it's repetitiveness and lack of originality, and yet it is still a very popular game, even with MPUK.

well i think it rox, but i just updated, and now when i try and connect it goes "testing bandwidth" and sits there for ages. any1 else know whats going on, or can some1 help me. im adsl btw :D

So you guys got the patch as well then. Yeah, it was supposed to reduce lag and it has...by letting no-one into the games the servers are running LAG ( and people ) free!:D

I havent tried it with the patch myself but i will soon. Ive mostly been playing 1v1 LAN games. Incredibly sad and not much fun, yes, but very good for practise.:D

when im actually connected to a server ( not very often ) and when im not getting booted it off it ( GRRRRRRRRR ) its gr8 fun im a sniper by trade and racking up engineer kills is whats i do best. teach the little tarts to fix tanks, get a real mans job with guns and junk :D

Whos your favourite character ? Mine has to be the Black Hand Stealth guy. You shoot a guy in a hum-vee, diappear, reappear behind him, pump him full of laser and start again...great fun.

But i think its worth mentioning that i took out a hum-vee when i was a Nod soldier and it was only 1 on 1. Run, shoot, run, shoot. The guy was really really annoyed and i was really happy!:D

not the railgun type the 1 with the 3 shot rifle
its just perfect for taking away troublesome engineers from tanks
best score so far is 23 kills nearest was somethin like 13 for some reason i came 3rd too

rar, i been clocking up about 500 b4 the patch, still having probs connecting, but will try again l8r once i get a chance

great game tho, shame it got bad reviews, must have a crap single player
