Any one else found that these mice have a very very high pitched noise coming from them? Also it's not very smooth compared to the old Intellimouse Explorer with a wire.

Simply a case of M$ trying to catch up where another company made a good product (in this case, Logitech).

As to the whine... do you only get it when you're actually moving the mouse (ie. the mouse is "active")? If so, then it could be something to do with the electronics that regulate the voltage to the components inside it. Apart from that suggestion, I haven't a clue why it would whine.

I'd assume the same thing.

Does sound worrying though. I cant imagine where it'd generate audible noise in RF circuitry, a microcontroller and the optical sensor .... unless they use something HV to light the thing up (that could save power in theory).

I shant be buying one tho.

Just imagine as yo uget 0wned in UT ... "ahh feck my mouse battery is going flat" ... :p:

I went off MS mice after two MS explorer intellieye ones just stopped working for no reason (one stopped the day before i8), so I moved onto Logitech I currently Use the Cordless Wingman Optical I only have an issue with the wheel now and then but aprt from that they are good mice.

you can get a replacement using your lifetime warranty on them, simply ring up M$ and they will send a free one within 5-7days... worked for me... and they sent me the new v3.0 :D

the origional explorer intellieye had a really poor connection on the wire into the mouse apparantly, it just sort of "fell off" after a bit of use

Mate of mine went through quite a few and eventually switched to the symetrical kind that didn't have the flaw

I had one of the cheap symetrical ones since 3 months before i7. cant fault it at all apart from the mouse wheel is lose now and my ex stole it so I had to buy another one lol :p:

I think it was i7/i8 that I dragged supehfly around all the electrical stores looking for a new one because his explorer cable snuffed it :(

Yes, my Intellieye Explorer died on me at the Staff LAN party in Jan. First time an MS mouse has died on me.... but after a little snip and strip job, Im glad to say I got it back up and running within a couple of hours, and hasn't given me any more trouble since. Certainly better than not having a mouse for the rest of the party :D

Keyboards get a bash every time we type, and yet they live, in some cases even after a cup of coffee, but mouse get slid up and down left to right and i seem to remember buying more of them then keyboards. And only buy logitech, m$'s mice are actually rats!

strange but you ppl seem to have alot of problems but my old inteli mouse explorer has beein goin strong for about 3 years now and that included my counterstrike phase which ment lots of (SAFASFSAFA *BASH BASH*) also it was one of the 1st because it was an american model that i had the day it came out.

i now have a inteli mouse explorer wireless and yes there is a bit of lag but if you get used to it your fine.

no high pitched noise tho take it back m8.

i been runnin on ms peripherals for 5 years now evey one has not broken i've just retired it for a new one. But evey logitec device i have had has just gone dead on me. i suppose its all up to what batch you get.

I like my wirless intellimouse. Helluva price tho, but i like it.

B4 this one i had a Logitech cordless mouseman which was excellent...untill a month when it miraculously stopped working with HL, no other games, just HL. So i got a new one and that had the same problem so finally i got a MS intellimouse and this has worked fine and i love it...mmmm, freedom.

The M$ cordless mice DO make a noise and it's not something wrong with your mouse it's what they all do which is why no one uses them :p:
M$ Explorer 3 is the mouse you should be looking at :)

I had a little go with it at Inknet this weekend and it's so bad for playing games. It spent most of the time in the box :(

its the intellimouse explorer version 3 - scans at 6000 times a second.
i bought 1 3 weeks ago and still havent made it lose scanning and throw the screen all over the place like its predecessor.

the noise is known about and all the articles i read about was that it made an annoying noise. was gonna buy 1 cos the shape is sooooo comfy:D :D

I just bought a cordless optical packard Bell CO-5P today seems to be pretty good so far!

I must say that the cordless is good when you want to watch a DivX on the TV and the computer is about 6 feet away. You can change to part 2 without getting out of bed. I'm still going to get it replaced though.

I got one of those intellimouse explorer's the day they came out and after about a year of use it packed up. I phoned up MS who explained that there was a fault in these mice. the guy asked me for the serial number and my address and i received a brand new one in the post 2 days later. No fuss and no hassle! M$ might be a bunch of monopolysing b-stards but they can afford to not be bloody picky and skimp on their customer service!

I know a few people who work for Microsoft and they all say that its a fantastic company to work for when it comes to employee respect etc etc.

I'll always use MS! :)

vivé la MS

*cough*

but seriously no ms product has packed up on me.

although every logitec product i have had i've got at least 6 months out of it.

Dont suppose that any of you that rang Microsoft have still got the UK number lying around? My Optical Explorer just died (cable going) and I tried to find it on their site but couldn't.

Filled in the customer service questionnaire saying how pi**ed I was with their site and got a response within two minutes from a customer service bloke apologising . . scary :)
