hmmm anyone wondered where the RAM is on that chip? or is it so omnipotent that it projects and uses the RAM from another dimention?

It wouldnt suprise me...

On another note there wont be games utilising this card for another 2 years.

There are only a handfull of games that use the GF3 to anything like its full potential. If any that is.

hmmm another 6 months another GF Card that will have problems installing

BRING BACK THE VOODOO CARD FOR CHRIST SAKE !!!

Yeah, id stick with the Geforce 3's for now. I guy from ID said that the Geforce 3's will probably outperform the MX 4s when the next Doom gets realeased. Though by the time that happens we will probably have the GF8.

The 4 square chips, 2 above and 2 to the right of the main GPU.

There maybe chips on the back of the card too.

true about usage/performance etc. My GeForce 2 Ultra is still coping admirably with EVERYTHING I throw at it.

:( I've only just bought my gf3 that replaced my voodoo3. I'm not folking out more money for a gf4 i'll wait for gf5 cause no doubt it will be out in the next 12 months.

Voodoo 0wned, but no more :( my games didn't play very well on it towards the end of its life in my main pc.

ummm, didn't the Radeon 8500's have that dual output so you can have 2 monitors running? I think so. I've got one myself. Awesome bit of kit. Oh well. Tally hoe!

Is anyone else bothered with the sheer number of capacitors on the card, or is it only me?

Those capacitors would take a bit of juice to charge, and would probably hold onto that charge for a while after powering off. Definitely a case of earth yourself before taking one of these babies out of your machine. :)

(But why would you want to take it OUT of your machine...)

You`ll probably find that the demo is detecting that your card cant do some of the GPU hungry things, and isnt doing them.

Possibly..

dunno

Anyway.. i think i`ll get one as i still have a GF1 DDR.. time for an upgrade...

They dont look like very big capacitors, and I'd bet they only charge up at 5V, possibly 12V, nothing to worry about.

I would just jump them with a screwdriver / 1k resistor first. The last thing I'd do is be part of a circuit containing an earth point when theres capacitors involved.

This knowledge comes from getting a nasty burn (!) on my finger from a 24v 2200uF electrolytic bastard from hell (and it wasnt that big either!).

It's not the voltage, its how quick it dumps the charge out at you.

Capacitors = EVIL!!!!! Stand back, approach with caution!

Ge Force 4's aren't as big a step up from the Ge Force 3 as they would have you believe.
I'd hang on til Ge Force 5 where they are apparently going to be making another major leap in graphic card technology.
If you can wait for 6 months for the Ge Force 5 then do that instead of the Ge Force 4's.

i have to say that my gf3 ti500 kicks my v5 5500's ass apart from Tribes1.

gf4 mx's are nothing more than hyped gf2's though. not worth it.

Dwarf_Pr0n
17th February 2002, 12:48
GeForce 4 MX's are only about 90 quid so if you don't have a Ge Force I'd go for that one over the Ge Force 2. Otherwise wait for Ge Force 5's

Pentium 4 cores are currently 23 times more expesive than platinum pound-for-pound

now thats a profit margin.

The new machines payed for themselves after a day.

Watford electronics are quoting £329 for the Ti4600 (can't remember the make) while dabs are quoting £399 for an Asus Ti4600

its a bloody disgrace. They don't need all that profit. I'm sure we could divert a bit of the profit into our own bank accounts ;) Any hackers in here?? :D :D
