What popularity will Allegiance have at i10? I've just managed to get a copy of the game and i'm really interested in playing.
I've been reading through the pre i9 posts in this forum for advice etc and just wondered how many other people will be playing too :D I wish i'd discovered this little gem much earlier. (sob)

rar another convert - there will be a few orgnised allegiance games during the event, usually after the boat race when most of the staff are off duty

There is one copy in Portsmouth I can pick up if people can not get hold of it any where else...

I've finally exhausted the last copies of allegiance available in MK
I will actually try and play it this time too :)

Allegiances quality is beginning to shine through as the years roll by.
Almost every event sees *more* players in the Allegiance games than the last. I might add that it would be a good idea to *END* the idea of staff v. punters as this will alienate punters who get mashed regularly - everyone needs experienced friendly players on their teams to learn from.
I hope *MANY* of you will join me in the Allegiance punter area at i10.

Great. I'm looking forward to this :D
I like the idea of Staff vs Punters, but I think the mixed game idea would be far better so that the punters don't get completely 0wned!
Is there anywhere we can play some decent online games b4 i10? There is not a soul in the allegiance Zone anymore :(
afty
13th February 2002, 18:40
Try the free zone - I dunno if it still works / is there, but there used to be quite alot of regulars played in it. Late night is good, to match USA time.
Joey[kins]
14th February 2002, 09:52
the allegiance zone doesn't exist... there are sites with the patch as a zip file available... use the current version of SOVroute and join as a LAN game rather than a free zone game, you'll actually see servers that way...
oh, and staff v punters never really happened anyway... we'll just stick to picking teams to keep it a little fairer

I'm WELL up for some more aligence....I don't know how but it was on the FTP at i7 and i've loved it since.

2 things.
1. I did not want to be commander. I was nominated cos I had *some* commander experience.
2. My team were aruguing with me that the Ballista was not a bomber. We were playing Rixians... and YES IT BLOODY WELL IS. GSFS thx. Thats why we lost.... cos my team was utterly ****e and clueless.
Its not always the commander's fault. He can only ever do as good as the players on his team.

I take it you faild to notice my score after that game then :P.
I was on Squire's team in that game and totaly 0w3nd people with my fighter skilz :).
(me notes that i killed Mouce at least 4 times and BGH once >=D)
it was a fun game but one of the main problem was we were a "little" out of date technology and ship wise to FH's team.
Its been realy fun playing Alligance with you lot. been playing it since i8 :)
Cant wait till i10
(and if you need a skill'd fighter @ i10 pilot ;))

James... we talking about the same game?
I seem to recall we had 2. The first one lasted at least an hour (vs Wildhog I think). Yes we lost... but i thought it was a reasonably good game.
The second match I decided to go with Rixians, just for fun. It didn't last more than 5 mins because no-one believed the ballista was the rixian version of the bomber... and consequently started witholding cash donations... and lost miserably!

5th March 2002, 17:57
cant remember which game it was now but i remember you selected me for your team ;) and it lasted longer than 5 mins as i tried to totaly 0w3n the other team with my fighter skill.
Yes we did lose but i took as many of them with me as i could >=D.
It was a very very fun game for me, i got to frag quite a lot of people ive gotten to know on these ere forums (me points at BGH once more lol)

well i've just bought the last copy in the whole of my city (well, its not actually 'my' city but more the city i reside in :D ) for a princely sum of £19.99 :)
My next question . . . .
do i have to sign up for the Allegiance section in order to play with u guys? My main game is CS and i know that there is somtimes a problem with playing games on different floors etc etc.
Big Giant Head
6th March 2002, 15:05
I believe the rather lovely program known as SOV Route solves that issue :)
TelexStar
6th March 2002, 15:10
so i take it taht it is a problem then?
Big Giant Head
6th March 2002, 15:17
it used to be, because allegiances lan lobby only searched for games and didn't allow you to specify an IP
SOV Route adds that functionality so you can play from anywhere in the building
TelexStar
6th March 2002, 15:34
cool - i presume it will be on the ftp?
btw, FearHawk +fellow Staff Allegiance people - Unfortunatly i wont be there for i10 so make sure you get as much 0wnage in as possible because come i11 you will enter what can only be likened to the fall of the roman empire! :D

got the problem with the stuttering ingame sorted by turning on sound accel as u suggested :)
I'm surprised this game is'nt more popular given the fact that there is'nt anything else like available.
I'm still getting used to the incredably busy HUD and flight strategies, not to mention the vast array of keyboard shortcuts.
If anyone has any tips, i'm all ears! For example, whats a 'Ripcord'? and how do i change my launch location?
DEATH WILL BECOME ME!!

8th March 2002, 11:10
Sit in the Allegiance area :) The game is too mature, and deep to give specific tips out, but try to sit near to experienced players and learn from their style of play.
Big Giant Head
8th March 2002, 11:18
ripcord essentially allows you to teleport to teleport stations, begin a ripcord and you'll see little red dots appear next to the sectors you can rip too
to change your base fly into the base then click on the high screen to the left of the launch door (I think) then find the base you want to swap to and click transfer

bah - problem is that i go to the i-series with my CS clan m8s and as such will be in the CS section. I'll just have to learn from experience i guess :(

If nothing else... at least go through the tutorials.
There are also (at least there were) some online guides on how to be a better pilot/commander.
I'll see if I can dig those up for you.

I agree
It does seem to be a little out of date. The MyAllegiance site however has been very usefull in getting me set up to find and play online games.

You sir, are a star. :D That is really usefull for Allegiance n00bs like myself. I'm still having trouble playing on servers at the moment because I dont think Allegiance likes my router, as will all Zone games :( so I may have to install a modem in my own machine... we'll see.

mmm - Allegiance 0wned
(goes to search for servers out on the net)
and Wizzo sucked as a commander!!!
(sukling because I got shot down by him 2 many times)

I just have to say that Allegiance was far better than I expected.
I played in 3 big games, i cant remember how well I did in the first two, but it was pretty lame. I jsut flew around in a scout, naniting people and getting blown to shreds. Oh, and I rammed 10acious in a true n00b style about 8 times :D
The 3rd game was better though, I managed to jump in one of 'I'mgawddamnl337atCommanding' Fearhawk's bomber turrets and came 3rd on the points table for our team. W00t.
I want MORE!!! Again, the next i-series is too far away!
GG WP all that played and organised allegiance over i10, it was great fun and the tutorials were excellent. Plus, I know how quickly Winamp will d/l on a 2mbit ADSL connection, ROFL.
