I currently have a .com domain registered with Namezero, and I want to change to a _better_ provider. I have been looking into what I would need to do to get out of beng with Namezero, and that is to upgrade to a better service, for something like $20 for the year. Then after 60 days I can transfer to another service.

However, cause there are so many ifferent hosting places out there which is the best? I would prefere to get the domain hosted somewhere I could get web space as well, however this isn't nessecary if someoneknows of a good cheap webspace provider. Also the hosting has to come without banners!

Thanks

Ekim

Yeah but he isn't the registrar is he? Only the authoritative DNS zone?

If I am to use a service that will only host the domain for me, who are good to use to host the web space?

We can help people out with hosting... have absolutely loads of space available and open to discussion about costs. Can also host DNS and multiple email boxes. Drop me a mail for more info.

Or give Bargain Host a try http://www.bargain-host.co.uk/ (http://bargainhost.budgethosts.co.uk/members.php?aid=146)
You get at minimum:
FREE Domain Name/Transfer
35 megs web space
1 POP3 email account
Full CGI and Perl support
SSI (Server Side Includes)
No adverts or popups
Unrestricted Bandwidth
PHP4 and MYSQL Database
WAP Support
Control Panel (click here for demo)
24/7 FTP access from any ISP
For £12-99 per year (you have to pay 2 years at a time.)
Not bad all that and a domain name for that much.
If you wanna see their webspace in action check CS-Network (http://www.cs-network.co.uk/) our page is graphics heavy and it still loads fairly OK. I have tested it on works connection and had a download going at well over 700kbs so it can definately handle the speed. Hosted in London Telehouse too.
We paid an extra £10 per year and got unlimited disk space. We have used well over 1 GB of webspace at the minute and there is no apparent user connection limit at any one time like someone mentioned in another thread.

sounds like one of those ISPs who charge so little that they disappear within a few months after munching your cash and screwing your domain over

/me sticks with newnet. Expensive, but it works floorlessly and they're nice too (yes you even get to speak to humans!) :D

btw, someone registered the domain i wanted:-

http://www.****.me.uk/ :D

I'm with One&One (http://www.oneandone.co.uk) , I'm not really bothered about the cost because they provide a good service to me. :)

I'm going to be starting a site soon for online computer games, currently there will only be silly little things to play like snakes and someother wierd stuff. I'm currently working on a online football management game for 40 people (so far- 2 leagues, 20 teams).

I need a name for the website - any ideas I was thinking of:

www.ukgamesnetwork.co.uk
www.onlinegamesnetwork.co.uk

but haven't really put much effort into a name, so any ideas.

ukgamesnetwork or gamesnetworkUK sounds good to me! :) u could shorten it to GNUK (nothing to do with MPUK of course! ;) )

Did you get your discount Dwarf? I did sign up for their hosting through your link.

Seems to work fine for me too. I didnt go for the unlimited disk space - as I don't need that much storage, but it hasn't gone down and seems to work very nicely so far.

:)

Zenith

I like using Freedom2Surf (f2s.com).

Webstats
Frontpage Extensions
PHP4 and Perl CGI
MySQL Database
20MB Web Space
Email Accounts
Telephone Support
Technical support line availability

£37.01 (inc vat) gets you one year of hosting + one year of a co.uk domain. You can pay by credit card, cheque, postal order or cash.

Handy.

I've never had them go down on my site or an connection problems to it.
As for speed wise on a download I got over 700kbs at work so it can handle any home connections with ease. :D

well i pay £120 a year and have a 2Gb/month traffic limit and 200Mb disk space. Whats different:-

They arent faceless. If theres a problem, call them up, its sorted in 30 seconds. Service with a smile :)
i have a 99.999% uptime guarantee.
the server is at telehouse and they arent afraid to tell me what REAL connectivity to LINX they have (narrow point being 100Mbits).
i get the site contents backed up nightly.
it works floorlessly and will during the duration of the contract.
the servers arent crap!

Before anyone bitches about I'm a fool to pay that. I'm happy with the service and am willing to pay money for it as it's well spend. Cheap hosts just dont cut it.

I wont mention the colo box tho .... :)

That is all.

Tseia

if i could afford that much, i'd pay it :)

but i'm happy with amity hosting. only problem is they don't work at weekends, meaning i've had to wait until today to get the information, and i can't set it up in time because i'm going to france :(

and if anything says they give unrestricted bandwidth, it's almost always a lie - their connection has got to fail somewhere, and if it does because of you, i'm sure you'll find a clause in the agreement which means that they will cancel your account if you go too high.
