no one can explain the ending. take:-
blood - the last vampire
perfect blue
akira
ghost in the shell
for example....
perfect blue being possibly the most ****ed up one.

hehe ill explain it to u at a lan, but basically the original artist had a nevous break down and they forced him to make a better ending hense the air ending. where sayli take on nerv. the first ending was just clips from the entire series.

as i understand it the director(?) was manic depressive although i'm not sure if that has as big an impact on the ending as you think.
As i understand it (from a personal view point) the ending of the original series is a look into Shinj's pysche during the "third impact" (what they had been trying to avoid and in some cases start/controll throughout the series).
The End of Evangelion film ending was made i beleive in part due to the response to the original ending but from what i can make out is set along side the original ending, showing what went on outside of Shinji's head i leading up to and after the original ending.
I've only just finished watching Eva for the second time and i really am going to have to get the DVD's* i think as at the moment i'm still unsure of a lot of things.
It's one of the few Anime that i've sat and watched then seriously thought about afterwards (i think that is part of the aim of the director, to get you to think about reality/life/death/religion and what it really means to you)
P.S.
From what i have heard you can ask 10 people what they think the ending of Eva means and get 15 different replies which i think is probably very true;)
*www.devoted.com.au have them for about £10 inc shipping for each dvd in the series and the 2 films (Death and Rebirth, and End of Evangelion are due out this year).

Whats the one wher there is a massive sky scraper and one guy gets thrown off it and bits of his boday get incorperated into the super computer in the basement and takes control of the building?
I saw it on Channel 4 Managa season once but can't remember the name to get it now :(

i'm not sure dwarf it rings a bell but i can't think what one.

I think the guy/cop that goes to investigate the guys disappearence goes to the basement and there's half a guys body there supported by computer wires and it starts attacking the cop but the cop eventually manages to shoot him.
Thats about all I can remember :(

that definately rings a bell, i can vaguel remember it as well but i can't remember any details about it.
it may be worth popping over to www.megatokyo.com and registering on their forums and asking the question as the chances are someone there will be able to help name it :)
they have a lot of anime fans there :)

No, I was refering to the TV episode ending as I haven't seen Rebirth. I have them all in VIVO format. I dled them abot 18-22 months ago and watched them then. I was just reminded of it when u said u were buying the DVDs.
So far as I can figure:
1) Every other human spontaneously turns into LCL (apart from Shinji and Asuka)
2) Shinji kills Asuka and is all alone.
3) I presume then that humankind evolved into angels and that the project was a success.
I have three favourite scenes throughout it all:
Eva 01 going beserk in second ep, and also when it crippled Touji.
Rei blowing herself up
Asuka getting murdered by the Eva series.
Everything got confused around ep 22-23 tho and I lost the plot.

i wouldn't be sure about 2 if i were you ;)
i won't talk about the eoe uch here because it can really spoil it for people who haven't seen it :)
*note to admin spoiler tags would be very nice*

Fine then. But 2 happens so wtf?
It is confused. If u haven't seen it think very hard about it before u do, u will go mad trying to figure it out.
Also, where in the series is this Rei-Lilith-Shinji's mum who I have forgoton the name of come into it? Or is that explained in RB?
PS. If anyone knows anything about XP plz plz plz have a look a my thread in Software Probs.

try www.devoted.com.au R4 (many are also R2)
http://www.ezydvd.com.au/ ditto devoted
http://www.dvdboxoffice.com/ for R1's
www.play247.com for R1 and R2 DVD's
www.dvdpricecheck.co.uk/ if you know the name of the DVD and want to check from various place
http://www.animeondvd.com/ to see if the anime you are after is out on DVD and what region (as well as reviews of the DVD).
It's worth noting that some of the DVD's that are listed in the R1 section are actually multi region (but are not officially out in the other regions)
P.S.
could that Anime be OEDO 808?
It was a collection of 3 stories i think on one tape, part of the "Cyberpunk collection" released by Manga Entertainment (the other tapes were A.D.Police and something else).
I might have it on VHS somewhere around here

any idea on the cost of import tax from US????
werewolf

if you are carefull in the selection of the company you order from you probably won't get hit.
normally you are liable to get hit for customs/vat if you import anything over £18 that customs look at.
But some of the companies don't declare the true value on the front of the package and if they send the stuff in a jiffy bag it is unlikely to get hit by customs (it seems customs don't bother opening many of the small jiffy bags).
I think DVD Boxoffice are meant to be fairly "customs friendly" (ie unlikely to get customs charges on stuff from them) although they may be slow.
When i ordered my DVD's from Devoted I received them (all six in a jiffy bag) without a charge even though they had been inspected vy customs.
