I'm setting up a home lan and am trying to find out which games are worth buying.....More specifically, I would like to compile a list of games that only require 1 disk per network. I can't rely on reading the back of boxes in shops as they tend to a bit skimpy with multiplayer info (they like you to buy b4 u realise u need more than copy).

I play all genres (except RTS) so any info would be muchly appreciated. Oh, what's the deal with Counter Strike - can you activate bots or is it players only (not great with only 3 machines), I've never played it but have read so much about it.

Thanks - Smeggins

there are a number of counterstrike bots available. Some of the very good, someof them ok, and some of them downright bollox! I suggest you go to Planet Half-Life (http://www.planethalf-life.com) and check them out! :)

Oh and you need a quality game like Op Flash or Ghost Recon as well! :D

Cheers folks. I've already got op flashpoint (superb game) but only one machine capable of running it!!! Do the other titles run with only 1 CD? I was contemplating Civ3...Any news on a multiplayer fix for it yet. All input gratefully received.

Thanx

Half-Life can be run on a lan with 1 PC - you don't even need to buy the game! Get hold of a copy of the CD, install it, and use the CD Key: 3333-33333-3333. This is a LAN CD Key which will let you play the game over a LAN only. You won't be able to play with that CD Key on the Internet!

Still, it's very useful :p:

If you can't think of nothing nice to say, don't say nothing at all...

Oh my god...that is a twisted version of a thing my dad says to me and my sister almost every day.

"If you can't say anything nice, dont say anything at all."

what relevance does this have with the topic?

absolutly none, but it keeps in the spirit of this whole board! ie, flood with as much pointless spam as possible and go off topic as quickly as possible :D

btw, anyone played Ghost Recon online? is it any good?

I think UT can do it.

If i'm wrong I'll tell you where i got that idea from

It all started down the pub when a fella called Stev started a LAN party with 4 of his boxes every sunday.

He would use a sever to run the game but no CD's in the boxes the people would use

worked with q3 too

And then there is the old CD check switch out trick...

Full install of the game, start game with CD in drive, wait for main menu then take cd out, put in other machine and start game.

Works for ermm Shogun, maybe Midtown madness 2, usually games with a splash screen on load up (its normally safedisc protection).

I think Sacrifice has a spawn multiplayer install, so does Warcraft 2.

I noticed you said you didnt like rts games, which is a shame as they work best of all on a lan.

Starcraft, Age of Empires (II), populous, are all excellent lan games, they come into their own when played against other people, starcraft is a must for any gamer worth his salt.

And with starcraft, you can install spawn versions onto other machines using the same cd key, however only one can start the game the other join it. I think its 4 or 8 spawn versions from one cd.

I really must say that you must try starcraft on a lan, it what the lan game was invented for..

Thanks for your suggestions....I'll give Starcraft a whirl if I can track it down. I looked in GAME for it earlier, but no sign. Is it on budget, or full-price? I'm having a blast at ALPHA CENTAURI at the minute, but it's a bit ****e......

Anyway, keep em coming, I'm eternally grateful.

Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe starcraft + Broodwars is available as a multipack on budget release, keep looking, its a must own game, and one well worth the search for..

Blizzard made it, they may well have stocks or lists of resellers, it beats warcraft hands down, i do love the sound of the tanks when they go into bombard mode

Managed to download some REALBOTS, and they have contributed quite nicely to my sessions. Although it has to be said that their intelligence varies from the cunning to the dimwitted!!

Are REALBOTS about as good as it gets, or are there some better bots lurking? ALL input gratefully received.

Cheers once again
