I have been doing some tests making a Barcode Security systems maybe for use at the lans?

If you know anything about hand held scanners you know they just go into a ps2 port and output a barcode as if you was typing in the command via a keyboard.

Now I have tested this system and you can scan the code on lets say a name badge and then the one on the pc/monitor and it then flashes red to indicate that the two codes dont match. The database was very simple to make but could be itergrated into a large database.

What im trying to incorporate now is a barcode genrator so you type in a Booking reference into the database and it would print out all the necessary sticks included the barcode.

It works well.

I also have an automated seat planner in design it just takes the clan tags, and knows where to sit them, its great for pulling out your first preliminary seating plan.

I could show you the databases or even help you to create them. What you would have to get hold of is some scanner which im told cost around a grand a piece..maybe I could knick some from work? :)

yeh paint is the best bet

but what about if the paint comes off?

so i have come up with a better thing shoot each person with a paint ball gun then even is the paint comes off you are left with a hell of a puncher.

:)

what you think of that?

Some kind of security paint would be cheaper methinks. although im not sure if you could get 1000+ distiguishable shades of paint.

the barcode scanner is good tho and im having my whole pc (processor and ram included) security marked. its cheap and very hard to wash off (especially on the internal components :))

Actually, i saw on some pre manufactured machines (Pentium Classic if i remeber rightly) they burnt the buyers address into the bios and it flashed up every time it booted, thought it was a good idea. Perhapse mod your bios logo to your post code + house number

£1000 is a bit over the top for just a scanner, i`ve seen em for as little as £40 (for the hand held PS2 type)

Bar code printers arent nesecary as you can just make it part of the name badge (as stated above)

I see this as a fairly good system.

Maybe tho, a better idea.

A lot of peoples PCs come with bar codes on them (PC world etc..)
, and monitors almost always have them. And if they have been to a previous event then they may still have their badge and sticker from the last time (i mean a few events down the road)

So it would be useful to have the ability to just scan a current barcode in and match it to the one on the badge.

Paint balling gun

My idea rulz v-much.

I also have a new idea each person who pays gets a car with lets say "i10" on it. and a speical bar code.

but the bar code is not just the only sercurity it also has to be entered in to a machine and you have to enter a 6 digit number.

the when you have entered the right number on the screen you name status cums up. also you computer status cums up and other thnings to verify that you own that computer
