well it is s business after all! MPUK are'nt there simply for our pleasure - do u think Wizzo takes all that abuse from us for free? :D

they're there to make money - notihng wrong with that, after all £60/70 for a weekend LPB LAN'age is very good from an individual point of view. It's the money you'd spend on a weekend away at least.

So long as the LAN's get better with better equipment and better organisation and the punters are'nt ripped off then i'm ok with them making loads of money - its a good, fun business to get into and thats a rare thing in this world.

joy to MPUK :D

hehe don't worry m8, if you are a CS player the best thing to do is to enter the CS tourney with another clan that does'nt have the full amount of players (there are always clans that can't field a full team) that way you'll get to know the clan your sitting with. you'll see loads of posts torwards the event, asking if any CS players want to enter the tourney with their clan. :)

OMG Not another i-series too expensive thread?

Well, the venue alone is a BIG chunk of the money, AFAIK its 5 figures...yes for a venue of this size and quality you have to pay big bucks. Especially if you see the aftermath, I.E. what the racecourse put up with down in the concourse area. The last I-series I was a team leader for the yellowshirts in the concourse and if you saw the state that those cs players left the area in, you would not believe it. People must have slept, sat and lived in their own filth for the duration.

Then you have the electricans, rolling out the power infrastructure for 1000 people is no small task (1000x 300Watts) 300 kW , and the actual electricity used.

Also bear in mind that 17.5% of that 70K goes straight to Mr Taxman.

At i9, two switches blew up prematurely, and 24port managed switches dont come cheap.

The core switches are a pair of 48port extreme switches and if you saw how much these cost, you start to realise that it takes many i-series to pay for such quality gear.

And there are loads more costs which I expect wizzo will fill you in on.

Of the 70,000 earned at I9.

34,500 was used to pay off the mortgage on Wizzo's south of france mansion, and his debts to Carlos "The Penetrator" Valdez.
22,500 was spent on free cocaine for the staff.
2,950 was spent on whores.
50 quid was spent on the venue, the power and the network.

Or there abouts..

These sort of posting get put up everytime. If you are really interesed just contact Company House and get the accounts for Multiplay UK and just see where your money is going to (I believe there is a small fee for them).

Afty
3rd December 2001, 16:21
You can do that, but Multiplay haven't filed reports since they really took off, so the figures wouldn't be too good.

Instead, wait until next summer when they file for the last two years if you're so desperate to see exactly how much percentage of MPUKs revenues go down under 'corporate entertainment'.

And let me tell you, I mean go down in the strictest sense.

A rough and ready estimate, If 300kw was provided, the power grid would go down every time people spun up their hard drives (Esp Zeb) Wizzo I'm sure knows how much is really provided, but i'd guess more towards 1/2 Mega Watt

Although some very sheepish looking electricians had better replacements for the next day. (Forgot to plug in the neutral FFS)

Wizzo's mantion has one hell of a morgage and well, MPUK staff wouldn't be there without the wh0res and cocaine :D

Seriously, wizzo has to live off these events, it is his job, its fair enough, Every time, We don't make a profit at the end of the day is said

sp00n, peeps aren't attacking you , its just that every time an i-series event is held, this thread happens, I mean i10 is over 3 months away, imagine how big this thread will be by then.

Oh and anyone cought complaining will have their name written doen by the uber ducktape team and then will be sought out for some 0wnage at i10!!!!

Well I hope you are not bitching about the price of the event, cos if you are I will have to bitch slap you repeatedly at i10 with a large wet smellly haddock, but otherwise, try the following:

Rental of the venue = Several thousands
Insurance of MPUK kit and personal acident cover = a lot
Additional equipment (switches, hubs, routers, cables, tools, gaffa tape, beer, crimping tools, connectors, servers, hard drives, back-up devices, back-up media, software etc) = again, running to several thousands
Printing = A lot
Staff T-shirts = a bit
Staff catering = a bit
Breakages = hopefully not much
Web hosting = not too much
Depreciating on existing hardware and assets = quite a bit
Wizzo's wages (as he is now doing this as a living IIRC) = nowhere near enough for all the work he does
Misc = not too much

Total = not far short of 70k

Apologies that this is not as exact as it it could have been, but I have just got back from the Alcatel press party where I drank 10 bottles of beer and 9 - count'em - 9 large shots of tequeila and I'm not quite with it.

Anyone looking for a more indepth economic comment can read some of my work in this thursday's edition of Computing!

£70 is for the event and the other £10 - by law -gets given to me :D

hhm.... just wondering how much one of these events costed cause doing it on a small scale is fine (30-40) but with 1000+ it must be alot more complex. £70 is an excellent price for the weekend, its basically 4 days of internet and lan usage with like 4 hours sleep space :D

guess ill have to save those pennys to get my own lan going cause no1 does lans down here (southampton):(

LOL. Interesting 'cause MPUK HQ is classed as being in Southampton, despite the fact it's 20 minutes away :)

That should read:

The only internet connection there is a 56k modem which downloads drivers (which don't actually get downloaded) and probably checks email.

I dont know why you dont go to newbury.

I live in soton and its like 20 mins away. You wont get many Lans closer than that, and the i-series is the *BEST* lan in the country IMHO. <insert stratlan flame>

Ok, so you`re not very observant...

there are loads down this way, i`m in portsmouth, and a huge chunk of the MPUK staff are southerners...

There are a lot of local lans that i just cant be arsed to go to...

Jeasus Nexxy, how heavy is your lead foot ?!

I drive at like <very fast> most of the way and it still takes me about 45 mins.

PS: Note to Police people, i dont really drive that fast :D

yeah, but u live in pompey wk :-)

its prolly actually more like 25 mins - 20minutes of that is motorway.

I live not very far from m3 (like 2 mins drive from home address)
plus I drive up early (or try to) so miss most of the traffic.

When I brought ekim from whale island to newbury on thursday night it took about 45 mins from what I remember....dunno if ekim will ever get in the car again tho :-)
