My current setup is as follows

Netgear DG834 GT router
Vista 64 computer running a realtek 8187(?) wirless adapter
Vista 32 laptop running onboard wireless

The Vista 32 connection is always rock solid and only drops when the router itself drops the connection.

The Vista 64 machine is turning very temperamental. Every so often it will drop the connection to the router and all applications will seem to disconnect from the interest (MSN/ browser / games). The vista 32 machine does not have any problems.

I discovered I could ping the router from the 64 machine, but it still wouldn’t play ball browsing.

The only way I can resolve the issue is to reboot the machine.

Any advice? I’ve updated router to latest firmware and have latest drivers (to my knowledge) for my adapter.

Could you do an "iconfig /all" and past it in here.

When it drops again try browsing to 66.102.9.99, I have a feeling your having a DNS issue.

Good try - but when i try to browse, i also try gettting to the router page 192.168.0.1 and it doesn't work.

DNS wouldn't affect that.

I don't know the details, but might this be related to the general "vista doesn't work well with wireless" shenanigans ?

I assume you're using Vista SP1? I think that fixed some of said shenanigans.

It Could be the usb port, that adaptor is very long and they always get banged etc.. and damage the usb port. worth looking at.

1) Open command prompt on problematic vista machine as an administrator.

2) paste the following and hit enter:-

netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

I had a similar problem. My gf's xp latop would not browse the web, but my vista 64 machine and 360 were fine. Turns out that zonealarm on her machine was the issue; uninstalled and reinstalled and all was ok. Are you using a 3rd party fire wall?

:whs:
I've seen this problem before and that line fixed it.

maybe you installed java on the 32bit internet explorer and then tried to use that java in x64 IE which doesnt exist.

As much as I love Sun (if anyone can love a multinational company), java really is a big POS...
