Sad though it is, I cant see obhama lasting a full 4 years as american president without an assasination attempt.
Whilst i think he will do a good job there is a lot of people in the US that have made it clear they wont accept a black guy (or a woman) as president.

Acording to polls, If the election was today he would win by a landslide, I cant see that changing too much. My black m8s are taking bets and i was well put off by the idea, but after thinnking about it, there are loads of nutters with guns in the US I can see it happening.

I don't think he's been watching too much 24 at all, it's a genuine threat if he "does" get into power. There are still plenty of people in America who do not want a black President and if one gets into power will look at ways of removing them. It's just one of the many things Barack Obama will have to avoid if he gets to become President.
JFK was assassinated for reasons including that he wanted to pull out of Vietnam so who is to say Obama won't have to deal with these people?

Well if it does happen we will know who the ring leader is ;)
Will it happen? It's not unlikely. There is such a broad range of people in the continental USA these days that there will be lots of opinions, but the higher eschelons of society are still pretty class seperate and even the moderate would rather a black man than a woman, so there will definatly be people who would disagree with a black president.
Whether he will rebuild New Orleans or not will be interesting to see.

George Bush has had assassination attempts so did Bill Clinton and George H. W. Bush, of course it will happen to Barrack!

I have to agree that there is actually a high chance of this. But the US government will be aware of it and will step up security if they feel there is a serious threat. (one would hope)

When does it stop becoming murder and become assasination? Do you have to be famous to be assasinated? Or is it simply the same thing but assasination sounds better...

:eng101:
assassinate verb (assassinated, assassinating) 1 to murder, especially for political or religious reasons. 2 to destroy (someone's reputation) by slander, malicious rumour, etc. assassination noun. .:Ref (http://www.chambersharrap.co.uk/chambers/features/chref/chref.py/main?query=assassination&title=21st&sourceid=Mozilla-search)
So I guess the difference being that they are the same, just that an assassination is motivated by politics or religion.

I wouldn't be so sure. George Bush has an approval rating around 20% / 25%, the democrats have a great chance this time around. Last week the major news networks (the good ones) were reporting Obama is leading by a decent margin in the swing states. Florida and Ohio swung the vote for George Bush in 2000 and 2004 so it looks to me like Obama has it wrapped up at this point. If McCain keeps flip-flopping like a crazy old man, and the media does its job and points this out to the masses, then its democrats all the way.

I think there is a fair chance of at least a serious attempt at assasination.
A fair amount of people take offence at a black man being president. A load more take offence at a Muslim being president (don't ask me why they think he's Muslim, we all know the yanks are idiots). He's also threatening to buck the trend by actually having talks with "rogue states" instead of bombing them as another load want.
Mix those three together, add in the fact that guns are easily available in the US and I think there is a fair chance something will happen.

There, I fixed the omission in your post!
It was deliberate, I didn't want my point derailed by that whole issue. Thanks though. :p: My point is still valid of course, that having swing states in your pocket this early on is a good indicator. I'm as cynical as the next guy but I still think Obama can win this, even with underhanded republican tricks.

My IQ dropped a little bit reading that, honestly it did.
Presidential security is insanely close, all the time, every minute of every day, regardless of where the president is or what he's doing. They don't get complacent, seriously paranoid and very very savvy people are tasked with the job of protecting the world's most powerful man. In the current security climate nothing would or could get through the amount of men in plain business suits that surround any US President. Watch the news next time they show Bush playing golf or fishing or something similar, look at the amount of burly men stood around in the background, doing seemingly nothing, there's hundreds of them, and that's 7 years in.

I didn't think it was possible but you're getting worse! By constantly trolling you're just looking more stupid then when you started out on these forums.
For my two pence, I doubt there will be an assassination attempt due to the current us vs them mentality in the US. The majority of right wing, gun waving racist idiots (the likely wannabe assassins) are so pro America at the moment I don't think they'd dare try and topple the big man. Not to mention the amount of domestic surveillance going on in the US of A. That said, the presidents security is pretty tip top (payed!? or otherwise), so I'm guessing any assassination attempts would be dealt with quickly and quietly and with no media coverage whatsoever.

Saying a "Black President" is shocking to "Americans" is like saying "Suicide Bombing" is the preferred pastime of "Every Single Muslim In The World".
Just because you've read something by a VERY tiny minority does not mean what you read represents the thoughts of "Americans", not even close.

What do votes have to do with it?
My opinion on the matter is mainly a mix of too much Metal Gear Solid games, Colbert Report and John Stewart, so excuse me for that.
But I think that if the American government were to (hypothetically) rig the election, i don't think they'd just mess with the votes. If all polls suggest, and it's wildly considered to be a easy win for the democrats and they lose on votes, someone would investigate. I think they'd (hypothetically) plant some indisputable evidence on him to make his ratings drop, or have him die of "natural" causes somehow.
