Taken from the hardware thread as it doesnt get read much

Hey guys + Girls

After having so many issues with the Medusa 5.1 headset and had it replaced once already. The same fault has came back on the new one so im not impressed by the quailty=\.

So can i ask what :-

a) if normal headsets are better than 5.1 *if so give a reason please*
b) Could you recommend me some headsets and put down how good the audio quailty is. as it will be used for gaming and alot of music + will need a mic.
c) i have a price range up to £150

I do have a Creative X-Fi X-treme gamer Fata1ity sound card.

Many Thanks ^_^

5.1 headsets are a gimmick imo.

Anything by sennheiser is generally a pretty good bet. I have PC160s and they have lasted well, though the cables seem to have come a little lose and that has caused some intermittant faults (but they have been to MANY MANY lans and been battered about).

Not sure what the current top of the range ones are, for that budget though you could get some really nice over ear headphones with noise cancelling, only issue is they dont tend to have mics.

The 5.1's setup properly are certainly not a gimmick.

Not just for 5.1 movies which works very well its games like CSS where you can actually hear where the enemy is coming from and not the general direction.

got my zalman 5.1's and never looked back for 2 years now.

Id prefer to spend the money on a decent pair of sennys than some cheap gimmiky 5.1 headset (They look like crap and feel flimsy).

and a gamer will really spend £350 on a set of 5.1 headphones. LOL

Most of the gamers on this board that do own a 5.1 headset are the crap zalmans that sound empty and have a crap frequency response range.

"Call the shots" Lol, got to love Razer advetising. I think the best one recently was "the Razer Lycosa (http://www.google.co.uk/product_url?q=http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php%3Fprodid%3DKB-033-RA%26utm_source%3Dfroogle&fr=AKuFf2sS19h-qOY5Uf8hN_PxPitqDDQ3hNHZ6Om7P5GNwOupUMIxdKwOFZh24xPIYiDT2MrJJegy-iidq9wwBgqkqS7yF7RHq8wjx_gunPsoHFk32CctnTB5lwSgQ8JWqNKisiX6rpLz1NXOB_AFyeyUzAiH-4Ow0AAAAAAAAAAA&gl=uk&hl=en&sa=merchant) is on an unstoppable mission to destroy and dominate", I mean, guys, it's a keyboard. Srsly.

Whats the fault with the Medusa's ??

Most of our clan use them and the only ones who have problems either :

a) forget they're wearing them and get up from the PC, wrenching the cables

or

b) throw them down in a fit of pique

Personally, i've had mine for 2.5 years or so and had no problems at all.

Those Razer's look almost identical to the Sennheisers, apart from the mic boom!

Whats the fault with the Medusa's ??.

I like my Medusa's, but if after audio quality, you can't go wrong with Sennheisers - the extremely inexpensive ones might be a little substandard, for Sennheiser at least.
