so well i've digged out my second monitor and was wondering if its possible to set it up so i can use it without the main program (a game for example) to return back to windows.

and also when i go into a game that has a different resolution my second screen moves the programs on there about.

help

I'm not so sure you can. It might be possible with Ultramon, or the nView extensions though.

I've found most full-screen apps are very non multi-monitor aware, and there's not a lot you can really do about it.

this is why I play as many games as I can in full screen window mode

A simple way to stop your second screen from "moving around" when the first screen changes resolution is make your second screen the "left" one, not the right.

Not as intuitive for some people, but it does work.

You need to set the games to run at the same resolution as that of the desktop resolution in full screen.

Mine's always on the left.

It does confuse some software though, as in my case, the top left of the left screen is seen as -1280 pixels! Usually it ends up disappearing off the right side of the main monitor.

If you set the second monitor up as a second display, rather than an extension of the first, you should be able to do what you want.

Under Display Settings, where you turn on or off the second display, uncheck "expand display onto second monitor" or something like that.

You can drag windows across onto it, but the PC has two displays of (for example) 1680 x 1050, rather than one of 3360 x 1050.

Gav, that still causes problems when games start up in a "lower than native" resolution.

The right hand screen jumps around based on the size of the left one.

Ahhh, mine are identical screens (dual Iiyama 22"), which could explain why I have no problems. Plus running them with an 8800GTX, no game plays in anything but max resolution.

It does when you first launch it. Until you have the opportunity to re-configure the setings to "max".

Most games go for a "mediocre" default res of something like 1024x768.
