OK,
I have a cable modem (NTL) attached to an asante FriendlyNET FR3004LC router (http://www.asante.com/products/routers/3004/index.html)

which is all well and good, i connect the ethernet from the modem to the router's "WAN" port and connect my pc to the other. I can reach the router and configure (through it's web interface) some of the bits and bobs. HOWEVER, when i try to get it to grab an IP address off NTL (dynamic and all that) it fails to get a DHCP allocated address......

Ideas / experiences?

FFS (Was waiting for this, cause its cool :) )

Which NTL CM do you have?

I have problems if I cange the PC/MAC address that is plugged into the CM.

The soloution is to leave the PC/router and the CM switched off for >2 hours, at wich point the DHCP lease is renewed, and all is fine with the world.

( For some reason it will not give out the DHCP information until the lease expires for that MAC )

The PC/router will then say it cannot locate DHCP server etc...

Releasing the mac address from the CM's setup does not work!

( it used to )

( I'm using a mot surfboard )

when i had NTL cable / surfboard, i always seemed to lose my address about once a day for some time. It tells you on the DHCP req when the lease expires but doesnt allow you to renew it or something (or just doesnt in my experience). I got a nice event log full of dhcp renewal failures.

leaving off as Zeb says works.

I think its NTL's DHCP is flaky personally.
