PS3 fan noise

My PS3 sounds louder than my Xbox360 in normal usage! Is this normal? Fan is quiet when unit is first turned on but revs up after a while, I guess it gets hot and so the fan speeds up.

It should never get as loud as a 360.

Basic things airflow around the ps3 will obviously effect the heat situation so it might be why your ps3 throttles up the fan to the higher settings.

Only time my ps3 ever uses the faster fan is during running folding at home or a big game stint on a hot day. I keep all the sides pretty clear of obstructions and seams to do the job in keeping it as silent as possible.

There was reports of some launch ps3s automatically going to high fan speeds when you turned them on(after the inital spin up which is loud and normal) but im not sure if it was true or whatever happened about it.

If in doubt call sony imo.. should be very quiet.
