My PS3 RRODed on me yesterday doing this:

c5VAfd5Ip84

Its two weeks out of warranty (brought it at launch) and I was just about to sell it so it could break for someone else. Unlucky, Im still trying to work whats wrong since a broken PS3 is pretty unknown. Its something to do with the hard-drive and ill call Sony some time this weekend. Any idea if you need a special hard-drive for a PS3?

Nope. Pretty much any 2.5" SATA hard drive will do.

When you replace the HDD, the PS3 should ask you to initialise the disk. Let it, and then you're ready.

It's worth a call, throw yourself on their mercy, perhaps they'll chuck you a free repair/replace.

Just checked out a few sites including the official forums. One guy had this to say...I recently had a similar problem with my PS3 where i would turn it on it would go yellow and the beep a few times and flash red. Didn't matter if I turned it on with the controller or the button on the unit.

I switched where I had my PS3 plugged in. It was on a powerstrip with about 5 other electronics on it.
Since I have switched where i plugged it in it has not done this to me again.

Give it a try it might just work.
I'd also follow what Qdos suggested. Get onto Sony themselves. Explain when you got your PS3 and they may be gracious about the warranty repair. At the very least it sounds like it is a Sony fix and not something that Joe Public can sort out.

I swear PS3's got a 10 year warranty not too long ago, ahhh the PS3 fan boy garbage is taking over.
