View Full Version : Opinions needed....

Right, I'm need of your opinions regarding the PS3. I know I'm getting one so you don't need to convince me :p

However what I need opinions on is the different versions. I can get a 40gb ps3 + gta4 + i am legend blu-ray for £320 OR I can get a 60gb ps3 with a game (not gta4 though) for £325. Now as I posted in another thread, the backwards compatibility doesn't bother me, I still own a PS2 if need be. What I do like is the extra 20gb of capacity and the extra usb ports etc, but are they worth the extra cost?

I'm thinking the GTA4 package seems best, but just wondered what you lot thought in regards to the 60gb console vs the 40gb? There's not much between them I know, but are the differences worth the extra cost? Not counting the backwards compatibility.

TIA

Scott

If its anything like the xbox 360 with the 2 versions you will never feel fulfilled if you get the lower specced one :) The price difference is only the cost of "i am legend" +£5 though. Admitadly i dont own one and dont know alot about them, just sounds like you get a bit more going with the 60gig version. Also not sure on the re-watchability of i am legend anyway :) Not the best film out recently.

plus over the life of that console you'll be spending much more than that on games

True, although I'm also looking at the fact I will have to buy GTA4 if I get the 60gb version, so that adds another 40 pounds on top of the 325. I'd like the 60gb, just not sure if it's worth the extra cost :)

Scotteh, I think you and Pingman need to forget all this GTA4 PS3 console pretend driving stuff and go out and race the '4s for real! ;)

ScottehGT4 wiki seems to think that at some point in the near future, the PS3 will software emulate the PS2 hence the hardware emulation versions of the PS3 60gb/80gb dying out.
I Have been looking into this myself, as im looking at a PS3 I don’t need one but I would like one at some point in the future I can see myself waiting till the consoles come with Dual shock 3 or even to Aug, when the Chips are produced using 65nm which should bring with it a price drop.
But where are these packages you have spoke about as im tempted by the first one.

I get my "real" fix driving my car :p

Although it doesn't cost me £1.11 a litre to drive a 372bhp GT-Four in GTA4 or GT5. Bearing in mind it will drink around 15litres in 8 minutes at 170mph lol. The comfort of my home is less expensive :p

I'm just unsure if the 60gb is worth the extra cost :( If it is then I'll happily fork out the extra cost, but I find peoples' opinions very useful :D

Hg - www.gamestation.co.uk Has the best deals available in my opinion. You can pick up a 2nd hand 40gb with a game for £250 but that deal I mentioned is on the main page :)

If you're not worried about backwards compatability, just get the 40gb one, sounds like a decent package. I specifically went out and got a 60gb one, but now I'm not so sure I needed it. You can stick in a hub for extra ports, a larger hard drive if you really need one - I think you lose the memory card slots as well, but do you need them?

Get the 40gb package.

One thing I will point out, the 2 USB ports can be an issue, but can be solved by a USB hub. I mention it since you cant play Time Crisis 2 player without 3 USB ports.

I got the 60gb long ago, oddly enough I use it more than my wii and xbox atm. Nice to see good games finally appearing for it.

Edit: I mean with 2 guns, who the hell plays a fps with a controller...seriously?

This was my main concern really, only 2 usb ports might be an issue. If however you can get a USB hub for it then it might not be much of a problem and if it is really the only major concern then I'm sure the 40gb will suffice :)

As for FPS on a controller....god knows but those Halo lovers sure have a thing for it, even though it's horribly inaccurate :p

Right, I've ordered it :) I didn't get the gta4 bundle because it won't arrive until the 29th lol. So I've ordered the PS3 which is bundled with GT5 Prologue and the games I chose were F1 Championship Edition and Motorstorm. It came to £330 :)

I've pre-ordered GTA4 with game though :D although I want to play MGS4 beta lol

Congratz! I didn't like Motorstorm but GT5 is awesome.

The beta is still up the creek, so don't worry, you'll probably get the Playstation before it's back up. Get your gamer ID now so you're not wasting time when you get the PS3 - see the other thread for an easy way to get it :)

@ Gunsmith - I thought Halo 1 was brilliant on Xbox, having played 2 (really meh) and 3 was OKish. It didn't translate well at all to PC, but having played the sequels, the first really stands out for me as a classic shooter (and normally I hate console FPS)

[TRS]Scotteh

Yeah already got my game id :) I'm wasting no time with that one :p

Well the choices for the other games weren't great and my mate said he liked Motorstorm so I though sod it lol.

Back story is good, and for a console the control system is the best out there. Shame the PC ports are always utter fail.

I was going to suggest the 40GB if the number of USB ports doesn't bother you. You can always get a larger 2.5" HDD and whack it in yourself without voiding your warranty.

Gunsmith i have to agree with Cabe here, having played Halo 1 and 2 on Xbox and PC and now playing through Halo 3 on my 360.
The Halo series its self is very entertaining on console and to be fair it has an original story line and the series has panned out well, sure there not the best games I have played but they are very very good and you cant take that away from the series, It’s a console game always has been always will be.
Also halo brought online console gaming to the masses and led the way for Xbox live and PSN and what we have today.
