View Full Version : The 10 golden rules if your ever going to play paintball

just been one of those days!!!!

1.
Never tell a marshall how do his job

examples - ''my gun has ran out of gas''

NO!! it bloody hasnt a marshall will never give out guns that dont have gas in them...do people think we just set guns up and dont test them or something. 9 times out of 10 they just need a clean on the inside.

2.
Dont ever go on about the weather or mud

You must have seen it was raining on the drive up and you knew it was going to be outside so dont ask for refund after you have played two games and fought it's too muddy.

3.
Do what they say

If the marshall says go on the count of 3....you dont start coming when i say 1

When you hear someone shouting game over it does not even you can shot that nob head who wont go out when he stands up IT MEANS STOP IN YOUR TRACKS AND DONT SHOT AGAIN!!!! We also use the game over call in case someone die's or breaks there back or something so if your running around when the marshall is shouting game over then you could be putting someones life at risk.

4.
Dont take the piss getting ready

I cant understand why people want to get undressed when there going out for another game in about 30 sec's. You have a dinner time, this is the time you get undressed if you wish or do whatever you want but games are fast pace the only reason a marshall takes you back is so he can fix the guns and check the gas. once the guns are checked it back out.

5.
Dont ask silly **** like ''do you guys play when we leave''

We get asked this every single day......who cleans up? Once every leave we have to take every single gas bottle of the guns, clean the inside of every gun then wipe all the crappy mud of the side of the guns and box them.....dont sound too hard does it? Well when you have got 260 guns to take part it is. Oh but theres a few marshall to help you out and hear you cry....Not only do guns have to be cleaned all the gas bottles have to be filled up so thats 260 gas bottles to do and then every single mask has to be hand washed in cold and warm soapy water (thats 260 mask's) and all the dirty uniforms have to be bagged to be clean and the cooking area and toilets to be cleaned.

So no we dont play once you leave

6.
Dont ever pick paintballs up once they hit the floor

Paintballs are made to be gone in the space of 24 hours once they hit the floor...As soon as a drop of dirt or water touchs a paintball then they start to eat at them selfs and swell up and then wont feed thr your gun which will then take a marshall around 30sec to 1 min to clean out.

7. Dont ask for free paintballs because you dropped yours or left them on a table and someone has taking them...you wouldnt ask a car shop for a new car because you left your keys in.

8.
Dont come in stupid shoes

Your going to be running around in mud with big sticks every were...think about it

9. Dont try and crack a joke when a marshall is speaking...no one will ever find it funny

10.
This is the main rule of them all no matter what!

Leave your mask!!! we say it about 1244950385634059 times but people still find the need to lift them up.
A paintball gun shoots balls around 100-130mph if one of them hits you in the eye it will be the last thing you ever see and will also easy knock teeth out

When a marshall takes a group out then the marshall job is to take care of the group if someone gets shot in the eye then its not the company that has to pay out its the marshall and we dont get paid that much.

We get this crap every day :/

the amount of times i've practicaly had to rugby tackle kids to protect their eyes was a joke, how can people be so stupid.

allthough im fairly sure you wouldn't have to pay yourself if someone else got injured, thats why your company will have insurance, and you also make people sign consent forms i imagin.

other than that all the stuff you just mentioned, and marshaling in the middle of winter... its a great job to have :)

saying that I havn't been in for a while, due to omfg amounts of course work, will probably get more work over the summer.

I've been doing it for about 2 years now

I love my job its a great job when you get nice people that want to fellow the rules

but today i had 40 of the worst kids you could ever think of!! You would think they were rised my wolfs the way they speak to people

we had 12 year old kids saying they were going to 'smak da bitch Up!!!'' (Meaning my manger) because they wouldnt wear a mask.

the kids of today! god help the world when all the kids grow up and have kids!

Actually i went paintballing recently and me and my brother both had naffed guns at the start, mine had broken trigger mechanism and his had something else wrong.

Also pretty sure they take longer than 24 hours to vanish, can put that to the test in my garden :P

But agreed about masks, had many instances where ive yelled at people to keep them down. I mean its NOT that hard.

I would say they are doing their job, as you'd be awfully annoyed if you were blind.

I would have thrown them off the site for that to be honest. If they don't obey the rules and give staff abuse then I wouldn't have a seconds hesitation in chucking them all out. Nobody should have to stand for that.

probably not the trigger. Sometimes it does that if the pin jumps and uncocks itself - this can happen on tippmanns and inferno guns, which are the two main rental makes. Which usually do a maximum of 8bps unless they're it's a tippmann A5 with the response mod which includes a double-trigger instead of a single. This is something of which you're told how to do yourself or should be told, if you weren't a marshall should of rectified it for you. This is usually an air problem.

They're biodegradable, and in contact with anything that'd start to decomposing process is going to make it expand. It's based on vegetable fat and fish oil apparently, so that may be the case. Also why i can smell funny and taste really really horrible.

And no, it's really not that hard, especially if you want to retain the use of your eyes.

This. I mean really, if someone asks a question like #5 that pisses you off? You sound like a dick

Agreed, they're just trying to be friendly, no need to be a dick.

You should allow one to get shot in the eye. Then instead of ringing for an ambulance, rush for a camera and take a picture. Then use it as an example so that other groups are so scared that that'll happen to them, they'll keep their masks on.

Im not THAT thick to be confused by it "uncocking". No the trigger was actually broken. Cant remember exact details but was something to do with excessive water/muck getting into it. Wasn't just a "recock" issue for either of the guns.

Rule 1 is stupid, I've had a paintball gun run out of gas several times, I've also been given ones that had mud up the barrell cos some fool had stuck it in the ground and no one had bothered to clean it out. Marshalls are falible.

Also apart from the safety ones, stop whining. You are paid to answer stupid questions whether you hear them every day or not. Just like everyone else who deals with end users. Do I like saying 'have you tried restarting it?' or 'is it plugged in?' every five minutes? No. Am I paid to have patience with people I have to say it to? Yes. You are there for their benefit, not the other way round.

I too have been given defective equipment, and my friend's request of kevlar type chest armour was refused on the grounds that he wasnt a woman (and therefore didnt have boobs to protect) which I thought was rather sexist and unprofessional. there were chest guards issued to the girls with many to spare [possibly enough on the table for 1 for each person]. maybe they were worried about it getting dirty as it was a very muddy day.

Dont take this as a personal dig, but most, if not all paintball marshalls Ive experienced in my paintballing trips have acted like Army major rejects. commanding respect because they can hit you in the balls from 30 yards

Id have to say grin and bear it, customers are crap in every job apart from maybe if you work in a mortuary.... I hated most customers in my old job and I hate most customers in my new job, both which are entireley different... all you can do is smile and help them as best you can.

Indeed, the words "public liability insurance" spring to mind. Your company HAS to have it so there's no way would any staff members be liable, mainly because it doesn't matter how much you're paid you're not going to beable to afford the payout if someone loses an eye.

If your employer is telling you're liable for any accidents then I'd find another job because they're taking you for a ride.
