View Full Version : Your custom servers showing up on the wrong tab

With a recent update Valve have introduced the custom tab along with tags for custom servers. I think this was a great idea as I (almost) only play TF2 like it was intended by the developers. And this made it much easier to find standard servers without having to scroll much. I also play sometimes ctf_well on 16v16-servers and the update made it easier to find specific custom server. Pretty soon however "clever" admins found a way to circumvent this and make their custom servers show up on the general tab again. Great, now I have to look for custom servers on both tabs and I have to search vanilla servers in a bunch of custom servers again. Thanks for that! I will not play on your servers anymore as long as you bend the rules as it pleases you.

Why did you think that was a good idea? And why shouldn't you be banned by Valve for breaking their rules like every player gets banned by you for breaking your rules?

Best regards
CubanPete

Im pretty sure you must not be referring to any of the public servers. The head in charge of them has already publicly stated he will not be doing this. I will point him towards this thread to perhaps explain this.

Were you playing on a server hosted by Multiplay, but rented to a clan.

Multiplay.co.uk :: TF2 (05) (2fort 24/7 II) Instant respawn
Multiplay.co.uk :: TF2 (08) (Battle Creek) 3 sniper 3 scout limit
Multiplay.co.uk :: TF2 (11) (2fort 24/7 III) Instant respawn

That are the ones currently showing up on my list.

I am merely using BeetlesMod which is an admin tool to set the respawns instantly. BeetlesMod has been doing this since within a month of TF2's release. Mani admin mod also does this. If people want instant respawn servers (of which only my 2fort, deathmatch and skills servers have it) then I'll provide it.

Valve have obviously been aware of BeetlesMod and Mani-mod so must obviously be aware of the fact that these add-ons can be used to create no-delay respawning. Why they haven't chosen to detect this I don't know but I'm not using anything to avoid being put into the custom tab, it's just the way it went when Valve created this godawful mess! It's not as if the server title hides the fact either.

Frankly, you would be better speaking to Valve about the problems they have created with this new addition to server filtering. I can assure you that many, many people running servers have tried to air the views about it with them, myself included!

Many admins are openly stating that they are hacking their server to show up on the wrong tab. I did not know a custom server could show up on the wrong tab without "hacking". So I had to suppose you were one of them.

I can honestly say I use nothing other than BeetlesMod which is our admin tool of choice. There was a mod out not so long ago that would allow servers with more than 24 slots to be displayed in the 'Internet' tab which I decided would be a bad idea. Currently I'm down to one server that has more than 24 slots (07 - Lazytown) and this does appear in the custom tab as it should.

If you look at WP and Jolt you'll see that they too have instant spawn servers and they too use BeetlesMod to accomodate this and without looking I can guarentee they too will be in the Internet tab. I appreciate why you want the ability to filter out vanilla or custom servers and completely agree with it, it's just Valve have made such a mess of implementing it correctly. :(

Hopefully, they'll fix this eventually and make it work the way it should have.
