View Full Version : Banned?

Hello.
I was attempting to connect to one of your TF2 servers tonight and get the message that my steamid (0:1:190712) has been banned?
I have no idea why this happened. I was playing on the servers earlier with no problems, and now I am being told I've been banned.
Is there a reason for this? I enjoy multiplay's collection of servers and play there quite frequently, but I don't think I've ever done anything to deserve a banning. I am quite upset by this and would really like to know who banned me and why.
Thanks.

Which server? It might have been a clan server.

No, it's all the TF2 Multiplay servers from what I can see.
I was playing on the cp_badlands server earlier, then I got disconnected so went on the 2fort/dustbowl server for half an hour, and now I can't get on any Multiplay servers.
Definitely no clan servers.

Which server was it, might help whichever admin deals with this.

I can answer this as I did the ban. Basically, I caught you using the exploit on cp_badlands. I did tell you why you were being banned but you obviously missed it. Until Valve get around to patching the exploit we have had to implement an instant 24 hour ban policy on people who use the exploit as it was proving to be a very big problem.
Your ban will therefore expire after 24 hours, after which time I really wouldn't wish to see you return and continue to use this particular exploit. Hopefully Valve will have it fixed very shortly but rest assured that you have joined a long list of people that decided to abuse this particular exploit.

Oh right, typical.
A server admin doesn't like me. This sounds like a personal ban TBH.
I saw a movie on youtube about engineer building on Badlands, and wanted to try it out. I got banned without apparent warning. Do you also ban people for building on the roof on Gravelpit B? if you ban people for that, then I'm sorry that I used engineering tools to reach "inaccessible areas", but if you don't, I really think I deserve some sort of apology.
I didn't build one sentry while I was logged on to the MP server. I earned no points and AFAIK, no-one even knew I was there. I was simply seeing where I could realistically get with the engineering build tools on a live server where people could spot me and blow me up. I had no idea it was an exploit but got banned for 24 hours without warning.
Is there anyone I can complain to about server admins? I get a lot of grief from one particular admin without doing much wrong, and don't feel they're doing a particularly good job.
All in all, I'm sorry that I committed an "exploit". Obviously the 24 hour ban will let me think about all the points I didn't get for killing noone during my 3-4 minute playtime on the Multiplay servers tonight.
I'm pretty tired of admins who take the rules into their own hands and ban without warning. If i'd have simply been told that I was breaking a rule, I would have stopped, but as it is, I was shown the real world example of being a criminal to shoot on sight; no questions asked.

I don't like you? Huh? I don't even know you! You readily admit to using an exploit which you were obviously aware of and now wish to complain because you got a 24 hour ban for using that exploit?
I'm sorry you feel that way but please also see that we have had to ban at least another 15 people for exactly the same reason. We have 23 servers to watch over and #15 and #21 (both cp_badlands 24/7) have had constant admin calls due to people exploiting the map. We are looking into a fix in the interim whilst we await Valves official fix.
And yes, I banned you before you managed to get an SG fully functional but this was after watching you not only build the teleport involved in the exploit but also building a dispenser to jump on to build another teleporter to get yourself higher up within the exploited part of the map. All in all, I watched you for a good five minutes advancing yourself to get to that prime exploit position.
then I'm sorry that I used engineering tools to reach "inaccessible areas"
I had no idea it was an exploit but got banned for 24 hours without warning.
I think you defined 'exploit' very well.

This IS a personal opinion but an Admin banning you for exploiting is in no way personal...

tbh if you want to try an exploit you've seen on youtube you could always just run the map offline quite easily. i've done this a few times to try find new interesting areas to set-up without having the time pressure.
parva, i did see on the steampowered forums that you can make the exploit area a no go area by using some sort of entities (i remember using them in quake2 maps when i was a jolt /spit admin to play around with objects in maps without having to edit them). like you say, i can't see that it'll take long for Valve to fix it, but if this exploit is still a PITA then you might like to look into it ... forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=654512
/bum still can't post urls, therefore cut and paste the link above :)

also, i applaud you for the instant no explanation bans for these. people really don't need to be told that they can't build under maps and areas where items can't be destroyed. it's a bit of a no brainer really and makes multiplay the best place to play.

Played Parva!
It's people like that which ruin the game and spoil it for others, just a shame it wasn't a permanent ban :)

Fortunately, Valve released a fix last night to prevent this exploit so hopefully no further problems. Mind you, when Valve fixes something they tend to break even more.

That badlands exploit was discovered the day it was released, because while playing on the server at about 1am someone was firing stickys at me from under the map. Unfortunately i couldn't figure out who it was in time as the map changed before he killed me. But i am glad valve fixed it :P no more annoying exploiters.
