im dwnloading the game of the official wow website. But it has taken 10 WHOLE HOURS Just to get to 25 % dwnloaded! that means its gunna take up to 40 HOURS just to download the free trial! I do have the discs but they're YEARS old and it will take months for all the patches and up dates to come through.

So, do I... 1. Wait the 40 hours
2. Or go out and buy the game?! But will this make it faster?
3. Give up :'(

please help me!

Thank You! any suggestions will be fabulous!

Even if you need to patch from a CD install, that will be a much smaller download than the entire game.

Install from CD's and then use the patch feature. It will almost certainly be MUCH quicker than downloading the entire game.

But yea, the Blizzard downloader is pretty shabby.

You have to have WoW installed on your PC before you can install TBC and I think if I remeber correctly you have to have the original WoW completely up to date before you can install TBC otherwise you get error messages.

Yeah the discs on sale in shops atm start from v2.0.1 and have to be patched to 2.3.3 which is considerably less time than it takes to patch from v1.12.0 which the last batch were. So if you could, just get some new disks or wait for the download to finish and patch 2.0.1 > 2.3.3.

Check out http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/games/worldofwarcraft/patches/enGB/ for patches, downloads are normaly faster than blizz downloader.

As for the firewall, I think Blizzard downloader uses ports 3724 and 6112 so just make sure they are opened and you should be fine.

install wow from a old disc and when you installl TBC it fully patches it automaticly.

You can get the trial as a DVD from most game shops for £1.99, I bought a copy for when I need to reinstalls etc. It's a lot quicker than using the old CDs.

I think you can buy TBC as a DVD now, but only as part of the bundle pack for WoW, saw it in Game yesterday for about £25 I think. Bear in mind you will still need to patch even once you have TBC installed, as that only takes you to version 2.01 (we're currently on 2.3.33)

As for patches, you can be lucky with the downloader and get decent speeds. As you're not, I would use fileplanet - even if you don't have an account, it's generally pretty quick.

(Make sure you ONLY download UK patches, the US patches are incompatible with UK versions of WoW)

What I would do is get the trial download (if you're not using CDs/DVDs), then patch it using the 2.3 patch - it's the only major patch you need as it includes all the previous patches. Once you have that fully patched, then activate the trial account so you get the full 10 days.

Erm, hope that didn't confuse you too much :)

Even from the original discs the patch up to the latest version isnt as big as all the patches in between because its been put into a rollup patch.
