Dual site, Vegas for 4-5 nights, then Whistler or somewhere in North America for the remaining 9-10 nights. Situated over late January for 2 consecutive elderly birthdays.

Aard did you read this (http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2006/nov/18/skiing.japan.budget) by any chance ?
Japan would be great, but it's a lot more expensive then a European holiday and probably a little more then you'd pay for some North America action too.
The off piste action does sound tempting though.....

Actually there was a small piece on it in SKi Sunday this week, but that article just makes me want it more.

Anywhere with a drinking age under 21. :p

Can we stick to suggesting places that we will ACTUALLY go?
Like, places that are costed reasonably, have on-piste chalets, are within 3 hours flight times of UK airpors etc...

Getting boring as we get older Afty?

I thought the plan was to skip one to save up for mega opulent globe-spanning trip in 2009? Or are you, indeed, getting old? :p

There's certainly enough time to save up for next year. I believe a lot of US places tend to have hot tubs too :D
Also Crea, Canada tends to be 18/19 for drinking, varies by province.

I know. This is just one of the many reasons that Canada is far greater than America.

Getting boring as we get older Afty?Nah, I'd just like to actually go somewhere we can plan and attend, rather than talking about skiing on the ****ing moon :)

Damn the curse of underage and lack of monies. :(:
Next year definitely though. That, and someone give me an approximate cost so I have an idea how much I'm going to need to save up? :v

Great idea man, but the flight costs to Japan are a serious killer.
Romania in February is always great. Very affordable and some great slopes...

It was a destination for a more sensible suggestion! I graduate this summer so i'll be trying to save up for the uber trip if at all possible.

Or Bulgaria? I used to work at the dry slope with a Bulgarian guy who now instructs in Pamporovo.

If we do Europe I'd rather stick to the Alps, unless Romania/Bulgaria have a wealth of opulent options I've hitherto overlooked.

I'm sure we could buy our way to opulence quite easily :):

You are all missing the point (with the exception of Aardvark who is being excessive).
Next year is SUPPOSED to be opulent and expensive, and hence needs a suitably opulent and expensive destination. Is suggesting Europe, then ex Iron curtain countries are out unless we are going to some Russian Mafia man's dacha in Mother Russia itself.
Think please people.

Believe me there are plenty of levels of opulence above what we paid for in the various French resorts.
I'd be interested in staying in Europe, possibly interested at going further, but I'd throw Chile in August into the mix if we're looking at stupidity from an opulence perspective.

29th January 2008, 15:39
Chile?! :O

29th January 2008, 15:49
Or Bulgaria?Maybe for skiers, but Bulgarian resorts are FULL of T-Bars and Poma Drag Lifts.... check the piste map before considering anywhere in Bulgaria.
Some of the newer resorts have it "right" I'm told, but then they're not in the traditionally best locations for snow/pistes.
Aardvark
29th January 2008, 16:01
What I'm really hoping for is a combination of our normal levels of opulent living and nigh-on guaranteed awesome snow. The latter is not looking so good in the Alps these days :(

29th January 2008, 16:19
yea we luckily got a blizard in the alps on the day we arrived so it was all good but before then they said its the worst snow they have had for a while
Ryvita
