Vigilantism is great, yes.
I dont like scientology, but I think attacking it isnt the right way to go about things. I think it has merit in counselling, it just shouldnt be treated as a religion.
It is fun reading all the wacko high-level docs that are coming out of this though.

Attacking them like this is just giving Scientology a bigger name and give's them somthing to cry about that there are people out there trying to destroy them.
There are much better way's to take them out.
the fastest way would be to make sure they cannot make a profit then it would dissapeer in seconds.

Don't agree with anything that claims itself as a religion, all of them are pretty much up their respective arses on one level or another.
But this action by "Anonymous" if in any way true is just stupid. The group has a name and an agenda, the latter being to partake of illegal activities, largely in the continental US - basically, it's pretty easy to paint the group as terrorists, which will no doubt happen shortly.
Whilst it was anonymous pranksters, there was no real care about them - organised dissidents ??? Not a good idea.

I'll leave the eastern religions alone, since they tend more along the lines of "look, just be really good, please" rather than the western ones which go "believe in the invisible uber-moderator".

Thats assuming that there isn't/wasn't a god. If there is/was and there is just no evidence then those people who beleive might not be so crazy. IMO it is just as crazy to firmly believe that God doesn't exist without any evidence.
Also I would like to point out that western and eastern religeons are not that different. Eg. The point of christianity isn't that there is a God, it's that "look, just be really good, please... or the invisible uber-moderator will get you" :) wheras religions like Hinduism are "look, just be really good, please... or you'll come back as a rat or something horrible". Even buddism is "look, just be really good, please... cos you are hurting yourself". There is alway some selfish reason added as to why we should be good to each other.
Getting back on topic, the ideas behind scientology arn't inherently worse than other religeons but the way that it is setup to financially take advantage of its followers is and in that respect it is more like a cult.

They have a problem with 'us' as a nation, I dont think they would have a problem with 'me' because I neither agree, nor disagree with whatever garble comes out their mouths.
Im happy knowing that my lethargy to all things political and religious except when Im down at the church or the local snp grab a granny night... but thats neither here nor there.
No one has a problem with my views because I dont care, sure I care what happens but I dont care who's in charge or who's right and who's wrong. We can be sure of only two things in life.... politicians lie and when you're dead you're dead.

The only reason that the "internet community" is attempting to make an attack on Scientology is because computer geeks are a socially disempowered sect of society, and that by clubbing together to attack a single target, they think they can have a taste of that power to effect some kind of social change.
This has absolutely nothing to do with Scientology being a cult; that reasoning was just stapled on as an excuse to justify the above.

It isn't people believing in scientology that people have a problem with (no matter how obscure it is to believe some guy called xenu piled people up around volcanos and then dropped h bombs in them) it's the actual practises of the church itself.
There are many ex-scientologists out there in freezone who practise scientology seperate from the church because they believe in it, but don't agree with how the church of scientology acts.
The church of scientology is a dangerous organisation. It is an organisation that's members were found guilty of, and sent to jail for trying to spy on the US government. They wiretapped the IRS, how can anyone defend an organisation that has an OFFICIAL POLICY (go read up on operation snow white) to infiltrate their countries government?
Or how about fair game? Where if you dare to speak out against these practises they attack you constantly. Go read about Paulette Cooper and operation freak out, she published a book about scientology and they tried to destroy her. They tried to get her incarcerated or declared clinically insane. They broke into her house, stole some of her writing paper, and used that to send bomb threats. They made bomb threats in her name impersonating her voice, and the only reason they didn't get away with it was because evidence was uncovered when the FBI raided their HQ and seized everything in connection with them spying on the government.
Or their policy of disconnection, where if your family leave scientology you're forbidden form having ANY contact with them. There are families out there that have been torn apart by scientology. Hell their leader David Miscavige's family has been, and his niece is preparing to speak out against the church and it's practises.
Or how about their disbelief in modern medicine and psychiatric medicine (even though their auditing process is basically psychology) that has led to the death of several of their members in their care? Members that in some cases (Lisa McPhearson to name one) have been kept against their will, neglected and left to die dispite wanting to leave.
Scientology isn't just a religion, I'd go as far as to say that it's a terrorist organisation set out to attack and erradicate anyone that opposes them. The members of scientology for the most part are not at fault, they get lured in with false promises, and then get brainwashed. And yes, they do brainwash, their entire process of auditing is designed to supress the reactive mind.
And yes, there are many problems with other religions, other religions have supressed and killed, but none of these have an official policy to do so, and most of it is done by extremist factions, scientology itself is the extremist faction.

There's a reason why the American protests are all over their news, and the London one isn't all over ours.
The near constant stupid memes turned it into a joke, if you want to be taken seriously and you want to get coverage then you have to leave that **** on the internet. Whilst rick rollin and singing the portal song may be all fun and games on the internet in the real world it's the quickest way to get a protest wrote off as immature kids just having a laugh. Protesting is serious business.
America and Australia showed the world how to protest, England? We showed them how to alienate people from what you're saying by chanting stupid memes that no one outside of *chan understands.
There was a reason that for the past week everyone has been saying leave the memes on the internet, and this is it. No news station will give serious coverage to something that isn't being taken seriously by the people involved.

You need a tv liscence to have a tv tuned in to watch BBC etc. It is absolutly fine to own a tv that is not tuned in (has no aerial) and is used for watching dvds or gaming with. TBH when it comes to protests this really is barely up there for scale. BBC may have an article on the site or mention it very briefly but it doesnt really count as being very important. If there is NOTHING else going on anywhere then it might get a good mention :)

The Sun and the BBC seem to have pretty much identical coverage up?
The Sun have a frontpage link. The BBC have it buried deep in the London subsection. It was briefly showing on most popular London stories (I found it linked from the bus hitting bridge story).

Exactly, it's not the coverage, it's the placing of it.
You have to be looking for it on the bbc site to find it, on the sun it's right there on the news page. If you didn't know it had happened there's next to no chance of you learning about it from the bbc.

I'm not being funny here, but I hardly think a 200 person peaceful demonstration really warrants front page coverage on the BBC news site... If there were a few thousand people there, then maybe... but I've seen more people turn out to protest about the closing down of a village school. And I'm sure no-one thinks THAT should make front page BBC news.
I suspect some peoples' subject bias may be showing through in their desire for a higher level of coverage...

Firstly, it was 500 people in London alone, secondly I'm not asking for front page billing, just slightly more than being buried half a dozen links deep in a regional subsection. And a bunch of crap ends up on the BBC frontpage, so even that isn't really a huge ask.

A quick scan of the England page reveals that apparently stories about football goalposts and comedy Ebay auctions are more newsworthy than this.

Depressing.... also yes it was 500 protesting at London... but it was a WORLD WIDE protest. It was done in many different places all over the world with over 90 different picketed sites.
Oz had a lot of TV coverage. Local TV stations in the US have covered it. Why can't the BBC?

I actually have here a copy of 'The Way to Happiness' which I was handed by some Italian bint at the Powerboat P1 championship races at Cowes, IOW in the summer just gone. Only just now have I read the back and seen the link with L. Ron Hubbard...
There was a powerboat sponsored by TWTH and everything!
It seems ironic that a man associated with lies deceit and all that jazz, would write a pamphlet on how to live a good life...
Cool pics of the protests. These people that Anon are up against are clearly nutjobs :psy:

You have to remember it's not the Members that we are fighting against. People are allowed to beilive, worship whatever they want. We are fighting against the people in charge of the church who exploit there members and ruin families.

Hi Everyone,
I noticed your lengthy discussions on the war against scientology and was interested in asking you a few things as we are currently developing a documentary on the 'Anonymous' and the war against scientology. We are looking for contacts in order to gather information on the protests and find out why these take place. We are impartial to both parties and our film would be made to consider both parties causes i.e. why the protests take place and what the scientologists think of this. I have read that the next global protest may be on the 15th of March, can anyone confirm this? We are based in London.
We are also interested in the general concensus on filming at the protests, whether it is safe to do so and whether anyone would be interested in giving an interview for their cause.
We are fully aware that a large majority like to remain anonymous, so would respect this if you wish to give your views.
We would like to stress that our point of view is completely impartial and neither party will be made to look better or worse than the other.
I would very much appreciate any help you can give us,
Kind Regards,
KND Films.

Indeed it does. I was raised as a Mormon in East Grinstead for 14 years. At that time, they had their only UK "Temple" just down the road by Lingfield.

the best way to deal with them is to repeatedly call them a CULT. In the US they sue anyone doing that but in the UK they cannot as a judge ruled once that it was a cult by english law definitions. so its coded into UK law :D
