Well apparently its been raining in Wales, and so over the weekend the river Severn just outside our door now looks like this:

This is taken just off my doorstep and shows the water just coming into the road, as of now the road has been closed so Elye will be coming home much later as will need tried to park somewhere close. Apparently it may get higher tonight
On the image below there should be fields and a carpark, i think its under about 3 1/2 feet of water. ( about 1 and 1/2 meters if im correct)

There more photos of the Flood defences else where and my work (BT) flooding here (http://rmccormack.shugboria.co.uk/shrewsbury%20floods/).

Silly Shrewsbury, hehe you should be fine, you said that your house was built higher then road level right?
Yeah The Wye here in Hereford peaked this weekend @ 15'6" above normal causing some issues and some flooding to riverside Properties, then went back down but now its rising again and my rowing club is once again in water lol

Well this is what its like now, usually at this time of day there are queues of home time traffic but its dead with just a 4x4 going up and down dropping people off either side of the flood on the road. i was kinda hoping we were going to get the flood defences like on the other side of town but like Hg says, maybe cause were still about 4 foot above the water ( the steps i was standing on lead up to my door) were not desperate for them yet.
But it leads to access problems as ben will have to go and find a route all down the back roads, which i said about 3 months ago we should look just for the hell of it. i wish now i pushed the idea more :P heres what it was a hour ago.

The waters covered the road and pavements of the far side and has flooded our little fountain/seating area. for some reason the drains are all blocked with straw, when i walked past a few hours ago there were trying to clear them, think they gave up a losing battle :). the line of trees is where the other bank should be and the small rectangle is the top of one of those red life ring things.

Those are rather pro defences. I have alot of relations in Cockshutt near shrewsbury, though i dont think they have as much risk of flooding since there are no rivers. Anyway that does suck hope it doesnt get worse!

Eeek! Fingers crossed for you guys! I'm impressed by those flood defenses though, whilst they looks fairly simple in terms of installation I'm amazed the council managed to get them put in by now ;)

Yeah good luck guys.
Gotta be said tho, if the water's coming then nothing will stop it. Try and get valuables and important documents high up on top of wardrobes and stuff.

Why we brought a house by the river? because when the river is low, its really nice as its all fields over the over side and that sort of view is always a good selling point of a house in the middle of a town center. We are still 5 foot above the river from its current position ie the road. The development was build above the last big flood height which if i remember correctly was in the 1800's, and if it gets to our doorstep, a lot of shrewsbury would be in trouble.

Oh yeh, those fancy flood defences? heh, theyre around the council buildings and along that stretch of river by the marina. there are permant and just require the slats to be slotted in between the metal posts. The ones the deploy on the road are 45 degree angles so the pressure is spread or something. like here:

I was asked to go down the Conwy Valley to Dolgellau on Friday afternoon. I got to Llanrwst and stopped because the river was running VERY high... like 2-3 feet from flooding over.

This last one is kind of ironic. The path leads to Riverside Walk.
What riverside? :)

serious note if it looks like its gonna get any worse, try and get stuff up off the floor, breeze blocks, bricks, books if you have to. Hopefully it wont get to that, hope all goes well :)

LiQuiD_PyTHoN

Well the water has gone off the street, it has left hell of a mess. it peaked for shrewsbury about 10 last nite, since then its dropped half a foot. Apparently there is more rain incoming later tonight as the welsh hills will get a good dose again. we'll be fine, we are a good height off the water. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, its just means accessability problems when it does cover the road.
