Hi guys, As most of you know i'm a noobie :D and i haven't quite grasped tf2, i'm still learning the game, someone helped me with my console problem the other day and i was wondering if anyone else has this problem with steam friends in tf2?
I hold shift + tab, my friends will not appear? so i cannot speak to anyone? :confused: It will work in my cs 1.6 and cz just not in tf2, I've tried changing the buttons but still no luck? Could anyone help?
Also how to take screenshots, etc? And any other noobie information you think i should know about cheers :)

I have used Shift + Tab together and not had any problems, so not sure what your problem would be. Maybe sticky shift and/or tab key :P

If all else fails normally deleting you config.cfg from your steamapps tf2 folder helps.

Be warned this will delete your keybinds.

Deleting config.cfg wont solve overlay problem as you bind the overlay keys in steam settings.

But you can bind a key to "take screenshot" at your tf2 settings. Default is F5.

I know for me that all my source games take a while to load the overlay. What i normally do is load up TF2, when i am at the main menu i press Shift and Tab, takes about 30 seconds for the Overlay to come up, i close the overlay, i then repeat about 2 - 3 times until it loads fast. Then i go and play a game. It just seems to be that first time when you start the game it takes ages to load.

I got problems with overlay some months ago because i used Kaspersky Internet Security. Uninstalled it and overlay was working again. Dazza take a look at

There are some issues with the overlay taking a while. It usually happens if you alt-tab.

Restarting steam usually fixes it.

Hmm might be why I am OK, I run the game in Windowed mode which likes Alt Tab alot more than if it was full screen. Doesn't affect the game at all when I run in windowed so um yer.

aaaaand my PC is all Matrixy with the green LEDs ^^ while it is dividing 1 by 0 XD

Yea any update on problem? Have you tried installing TF2 on another comp if you have another? Maybe it is a graphical thing isolated on that PC only. I would also try, run the game in Window mode and then try to do the overlay again to see if it works.

Hi,

I too had this problem and it was a B*tch to find an answer. Can I ask you if you are using "KASPERSKY" anti-virus - if you are then this disables the overlay. Use google to find the answer.

I think i googled for "TF2 overlay kaspersky" and found a soloution.
