I'm using a dual core 2 2GHz CPU with 2GB of RAM on board, and vista as my OS. For some reason, when i launch steam usage of both cores go up about 30-40% and my laptop gets hot really quickly. Is there some kind of steam-light availible? I tried to find some solution in the internet, but came up with nothing (except porn sites of course...).

if you don't have an internet connection, but do have a network connection, it'll run up a fair bit of usage trying to get out to the steam servers for a minute or two before it gives up and asks you to go into offline mode.

30-40% loading steam is very good.

i'm using vista, and once Steam's running it sits at 0% CPU usage, occasionally popping up to 2%.

I formatted windows xp again today as it was performing fairly slow. I had found out that the drive I had installed it to only had a 2mb buffer! So that was the cause of the jerky playing.
Ive moved xp and steam to another HD with 8mb and it makes all the difference. Ive also managed to increase the frequency of my memory.
So far everythings running smoothly.

you'll blame anything on jerky play :awesome:

When someone hangs in mid air for 4 or 5 seconds, thats because they have a wireless connection.
