CS prolems

The last few days my brother's been getting booted back to console with the following messages:

CL_ParseServerMessage: Bad server message.
Host_Error: DispatchUserMessage: IllegalUserMsg 146

He's also got another couple of "illegalusermsg" types.

we've tried reinstalling HL and CS (using different patches.

The problem started after we were force to reinstall on saturday due to a mouse problem (which we beleive was due to a ping tool he had installed but was not using at the time)


His PC spec is
Athlon 1.4gig @1gig (because i had to flash his bios the other day to get it to run stable with the 1.4 and SB Live and hadn't gotten round to restting the speed)
Abit KT7A with Bios 3R
256mb PC1133 ram (Crucial)
20gb HDD
Geforce 2 GTS (also tried a Geforce DDR)
SB Live player 1024
10/100 NIC
Hollywood Plus card
Pioneer 105
300 watt PSU

Drivers/OS
Via 4 in 1's version 4.32
Nvidia drivers 12.41's
DirectX 8.0a
Liveware 3
Windows 98SE

It's connecting to the internet via my ICS server.
He's been running CS since beta5 most of the time behind the ICS box without any problems.


Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I haven't had any problems and I've been playing since HL 1.0.1.5 and cs 5 behind 2 different ICS boxes, with my machine running all of the 32 bit windows os's at some point.

But this ver of HL has many bugs, so keep trying on different servers, and check the ICS box.

the ICS box is working fine (older brother can play CS on his PC also using the ICS box/cable modem as the connection to the internet)

i've tried the Sierra site but their generall message is "out of date executable" and to patch up (already done), and it is letting him play for a few minutes before having a fit :(

So i'm now trying a fresh install of HL/CS onto my PC and going to give it a go here.

I'm also awaiting a reply from Sierra's tech support peeps :)
