N00bies Guide to missioning in Caldari space.
I wouldn't say I really have the experience in place to offer 100% perfect advice in this area, but this is what I've spent my time doing of late so I thought I'd proffer some of my wisdom.
As we have had an influx of n00bs to the PSPR corp, i thought it best if I gave some advice about agents and missions etc to help people get familiar with the game.
As you should all be aware by now you get to know one agent during your training process they then pass you on to another agent as a "starter for 10" however you do not need to stay with this agent.
You can do work for any agent you have adequate standing to talk to. For most of you this will only be low quality level 1 agents. Once you do a mission for that agent (s)he will give you a standing increase. Once your standing improves you can talk to more agents from that corporation. The higher the quality agent the better the standing increase you get.
Also as you work for agents you get loyalty points. These loyalty points can be used to purchase items you cant normally find on the market. Such items include named or faction items. These are improved versions of items made by a given faction or corp. Currently I`m looking to get hold of a Caldari Navy Raven. This is an upgraded version of the Raven battleship, with more armour, shields, hull, and a few other improved stats. Buying things through the LP store is also usually cheaper than the market.
I have based my activities in and around the Asalola constellation in Lonetrek, doing mission running for Spacelane patrol. As as result ive got to know the agents in the area and these are a couple i can recommended.
Name: Vakin Gan
Area: Surveillance
Location: Haajinen XI - Moon 7 - Spacelane Patrol Assembly Plant
Level: 1
Quality: -19
A VERY low level agent than anyone should be able to use. The -19 bascially means he wont give you as much of a standing increase per mission as some others but it does get your foot in the door.
Name: Nelir Bomsia
Area: Command
Location: Isinokka V - Moon 2 - Spacelane Patrol Logistic Support
Level: 1
Quality: 19
As soon as you have enough standing to talk to this agent, do so. the +19 will give you far more standing and get you on to the level 2 agents quicker.
Name: Heikaremi Otio
Area: Command
Location: Isinokka V - Moon 10 - Spacelane Patrol Testing Facilities
Level: 2
Quality: 6
This agent is one i did a lot of work for. There are quite a few different level 2 missions so you usually get a good mix from her.
Name: Haalonen Outila
Area: Command
Location: Oipo III - Moon 8 - Spacelane Patrol Logistic Support
Level: 3
Quality: 16
This is where I am currently based. Running missions for this agent and occasionally doing a LV4 from a couple of other agents. I dont think any of the noobs will be hitting this mark any time soon but I`m listing this one for future reference.
From here its very easy to progress. Spacelane Patrol has 3 level 4 command agents in this constellation alone, as well as a level 5.
One thing to note about all these agents is they are in Caldari space, for a Caldari corp. This means they will be predominantly Gurista missions favouring Caldari ships. That's not to say other races cant do the missions, just that you may find them slightly tougher than your blue brethren. I am personally flying a Gallente character that i created back in 2003. I have since trained him up on all the caldari ships and weapons so the difference is minimal.
Ok, so that's the who, what, and the where sorted.... now the how.
Firstly, if you are missioning with these agents you'll be in my back yard so i can help you with ship fittings and come to the rescue when you are getting hammered :D
Come and dock at Oipo Moon 8 (WK's Loot Emporium :D) and i`ll sort you out with some guns, ammo, and other toys to add to your ship. If i`m feeling generous i may even get you a ship too.
Once you have a ship decked out with some improved weapons and fittings then its time to go start running the missions. Go and talk to your agent and they will give you a mission. Check the neocom and get the mission name and then wander over to http://eveinfo.com/missions/1/ or http://eve-survival.org/missions/ and see if the mission is listed.
These pages will tell you what to actually expect from the mission with regards to enemies, damage, and loot.
Things to look out for.
Damage Dealt:
This is the damage that the NPCs will be doing to you. To combat this you should fit options geared specifically to defend that type of damage. I personally try to shield tank more than armour as i feel safer still having 2 levels of protection before i go boom. Other people will suggest alternative methods which are better for other races / ships.
Damage Dealing:
This is the damage your weapons should be doing to the NPCs. They all have weak spots and this will help you exploit them to get more bang for your ISK.
Number of pockets / steps
Something that has caught out a couple of people is that some of the missions have multiple steps. Either multiple waves of NPCs which take a while to spawn, or multiple acceleration gates taking you to more sections of the complex. Just be aware that some missions have these, and check the mission report.
