The dates for DHS08 (including travel day) are....
Friday 13th June -- Tuesday 17th June

After the enjoyment of DHW07, I suspect team win will be going via CPH and the wonderful SJ trains again. Currently flights are 'lol' pounds, I suspect these may come down in the new year.

Facebook event is up, invites are out, if you're not on the list you can request to join us ;) http://port.facebook.com/event.php?eid=6668028362

Possibly in. Flying would mean I need to buy a new laptop, which wouldn't get a lot of use the rest of the year. So I may propose "Team Road Trip" in a suitably comfortable and spacious hire car.

I've been researching this. The easiest option, is for someone up t'North to hire a van and drive down picking up PCs, going across to Europe on train/ferry and then driving up to Sweden. Total distance... 1200 miles or so. Would take about 2 days (leave Thursday morning, aim to get somewhere in the Netherlands by the end of Thursday, get to Jonkoping on Friday afternoon about the same time as the people flying.).

Has the advantage of attracting people like me who would want to take their server, or other people who have the ball and chain of a desktop PC.

Not sure you can do this, I think it's just the one port each... no additional connections or colocation service, without paying for another desk space.

If that's what's needed for it :) I have my reasons for wanting to bring my server ;)

im up for this one,but have decided without a proper gaming laptop would be not as fun, and my pc is way over the 3.62 stone limit.

if someones doing the car trip Id happily pay my fair share, anyone offering to get it organised?

Google maps estimated 17 hours from mine to Jonkoping. If I went by road I would not be going by van/minibus, just way too uncomfortable.

It would make more sense to take the ferry from Harwich to Denmark (no ferry from Newcastle to Sweden anymore) until you realise the OMG WTF price for the ferry journey - It's more than the club flights are!

As I said to Elbonio in PM. Personally, I'm definitely in for flights/train.

But if anyone is considering driving, then they may want to consider asking around if anyone else wants to go but can't get their PC there and maybe take something larger than a car :)

However, not sure if I will be going as it clashes with a wedding IIRC.

Team road trip could be amusing , I wouldn't do it, But i spent a lot of time checking out the Newcastle to Gothenburg ferry, thus leaving you a mere 3hr run to Jonkoping... just got to drive up to newcastle. The damage was something like £700 for a car (so take a large car with 5 people to max out value)

But DH Summer I will be giving a miss this year, i've got a far FAR sweeter engagement to attend.

Well im looking to buy the new Dell XPS M1730 ready for dreamhack, however if i could have some advice that would be great, i would like to know if its worth taking the 3 Year Consumer XPS Premium Hardware Support now at an extra £169 or wait till the end of the year and hope they will offer it me then once my 1 years warranty runs out?

As I think I mentioned earlier, the Newcastle to Gotenburg ferry was cancelled last year. The only one now goes to Denmark from Harwich.

If I wasn't a poor unemployed student type, I'd be so far in.

But sadly I am. :(: Unless others have a spare laptop for me to borrow, since my PC and collective gear weighs about the same as a small tank. Would also be nice to know what the total minimum cost of the weekend at DH would be, just to know if I'd be able to milk that sort of money out of my parents. :awesome:

Tis highly unlikely that enough people from mpuk will be going to fill a coach, let alone want to travel by it!

Alas I will be breaking my "4 in a row" run and not attending DH Summer. Winter will be the next one for me.

I fully intend to ensure Dave and Mandy's utter destruction at their wedding instead, rather than trying to get up for a 7am flight the morning after they tie the knot :)

If someone else wants to pick up the mantle for sorting the tickets, I'm happy to talk them through what I've learned over previous events sorting it out.

Winter can be a bit nasty on the Swedish roads. If it's not snow, then you car will be covered in a thick layer of salt and muck after about 5 minutes..

Probably also not advisable due to proper snow studded tyres/chains being required if it does snow etc.

Hi first post, complete noob, never been to a Lan party etc.

Me and a mate are booked ready for DH and have picked our seats (filling up fast). Didn't realise some of MPUK are going otherwise would have tried to sit with you guys but oh well. I'm sure I'll waunder over to say hi.

We're doing the Harwich to Holland ferry route then driving up to Jonkoping. Apparently it'll take 12hrs which I'm dubious about. Car is small mind, so I'm afraid I can't offer anyone a lift.

Murray-Mint
9th April 2008, 08:27
Just to answer some questions:

Computer - Either take a laptop or a Shuttle and small TFT. Laptop has more chance of arriving there in one piece!

Driving: How much was the ferry?

vivaladan
9th April 2008, 12:38
Driving: How much was the ferry?

About £180 for two adults with a car, return.

The other Ferry that goes straight to Sweden costs about £700, again for two adults and a car return. Problem with the long ferry other than the price, is that it takes about 24hrs so that plus the drive inside sweden when your there is going to take near enough as long as the ferry to holland and drive the rest of the way route.

Murray-Mint
9th April 2008, 13:29
I didn't think they did the ferry direct to Sweden anymore. That's interesting to note though....

Now to convince someone to drive to DH Winter!
