Ban request for TF2#16 cp_skyscraper

I have been playing skyscraper a bit on #16 recently, and i have a quick question, is the purpose of the server to win as fast as you can, or to have fun at trying to reach the top, or racing your mates etc.
Personally i have more fun reaching the top, and playing 'golf' with enemy demo's stickies. This requires that both players are aware of waht each other is doing of course, and not jumping to kill the other.

joins, and starts to get the cap as fast as he posibly can.
Numerous players on BOTH team requested him to stop, as it was disrupting their own attempts at making the trip up. This strikes me as as not particularly good sportsmanship, nor did he show any concern for the members of his own team.

In spite of numerous requests that he stop, and several players leaving the server as they were getting tired of being forced to restart, he continued.

Im wondering if I can request that he be banned from this server.

Obviously the purpose of this map is for people to have fun, your request has been noted and we will keep an eye out for the guy. If we catch him doing that again purely to annoy the other players on the server he can expect a 1 week ban for his trouble.

We are in the process of looking for a solution to this and will keep you informed via the forum as soon as we have.

After looking into this, and further facts coming to light the guy now has a 1 month ban.

I personally think its okay to fight on cap point to get the enemy team away, but its annoying to get killed, while you are on your way to the top...Its also annoying to cap the point because map restarts. TBH i always get to enemy side and then i go down to enemy spawn and meele attack ppl. But thats not annoying anyone as i get killed within first 5 secs :)

Sorry, im not up to speed on this particular map, but is the idea to get to the top? If so surely you cant ban this chap for doing it faster than others. Sure it may be no fun for those not as fast but banning for achieving the map objective seems just a little harsh.

Im with Jerky, he hasnt actually done anything against the rules from what i can see. The screenshots have no proof as its all circumstantial, his "unsavoury talk" was so obviously prompted by something as theres no way anyone would say that out of nowhere.

I think this is just a bad case of the green eyes.

1. I Request an unban

Reason: As i joined the server, there was one rule: NO RACISM !
So, i just played the map. Get up and cap... as people started moaning big time about me capping, i started to go to there side and fight them.

Rules didnt say anything about no fighting and no capping...

2. The First picture shows scores... you see points, so what ?
The 2nd picture shows an angry john....
the 3rd picture shows other players flaming at me like heck... they should be banned for things like F You...
the 4th picture and my favorite... someone on the server was talking about 4chan, and i just said, that there is weird stuff on 4chan... i didnt accuse anyone on the server, like john tries to fake show other people.

3. John points out messages, BUT puts them out of the context

4. banned on ALL servers for playing on one ? ... on a jumping one ????

5. 1 freaking month ? 1 month, for doing nothing against the rules, for playing the map.... you have to see that this aint fair

6. it would be just too easy, to change server rules, so everyone can read, what is allowed, and what isnt... i am not psychic, how shall i know the unwritten laws of jumpmaps ???

7. btw, saw john being on top, and defending it with stickybombs like last week. the only way i got him off there, was with a stickybombjump into his back... john , u shall not throw with stones, while sitting in a house of glass

That really isn't true. The whole point of the map is to get to the top yes. But it is just a map for having fun and if the entire server is willing him to stop and asking him then he really shouldn't have kept capping. It ruins the whole game for everyone else even for the people who are on the same team! I asked him nicely even he still did nothing.

i want to add, you should check your admins, yesterday, a guy called neo was beaming me through the level, and into walls, so i get stucked, and that is true, everyone on the server heard the beaming noice, and he slayed me several times, and i said: Wow thx unfair admin for slaying me

and he was lieing with full soul&heart like: What do you mean, i didnt do anything.... yeah yeah, dont give not grown ups admin status, to say it with the word of eric cartman: its wrong.... ITS WRONG...

If you ask nicely, you leave it as an option wether or not to comply with the request. There were no written rules broken by the sounds of it. If im good at a game, I reserve the right to be a little peed off if I were banned, kicked or otherwise mistreated by an admin or player for doing apparantly nothing wrong.

Admin actions need to be appropriate, and within stated written guidlines. Otherwise they risk doing more harm than good.

It may be that you are having fun, but in doing so you are preventing other people from having theirs.

That would solve it, People that want to just race to the top and score the point/get kills can do so without interrupting people that just want to jump. Dunno if they can just majic up a new server tho.

And rightly so, you had stickies lining the hole a the top, blowing them as soon as onyones head comes up.
Also i tend not to kill people, even at the top. more often I throw stickes down so that other demos can bash them with their bottles. You mightve just caught me trying to defend myself from you.

Oh yeah, lets bring the admin 'neo' (something or other) on the subject, to tell WHY he was teleporting, slaying, kicking, and close to banning you himself.

tbh, juts take this map and make a big wall at the top, or make it a ctf, and put the flags like i a seperated room, no one can enter

We are currently looking into this matter and trawling the server logs, should the ban be found to be unwarranted it will of course be instantly removed, and if any admin abuse has taken place the admin will of course be dealt with accordingly.

I have trawled through the server logs regarding this matter and your ban has now been removed. I'm sorry for any grief this may have caused you.
If somebody is acting up on a server purely to cause disruption then we obviously act on that, however in this case you were merely completing the maps objective, however annoying or unsportsmanship ppl may think that is, you are in fact only doing what the map was intended for, climbing to the top and capping.

I shall be speaking to the admin in question regarding this matter and be assured there will not be a repeat performance of recent events.

Regarding unsavioury talk on the server, it appears this was not all one sided and came from various directions, we shall be keeping a very close eye on this server from now on.

i have created another server (#11) in addition to #16 Server #11 will be for players who wish to learn the skill of climbing this map and without ppl continually capping, which is also a noob friendly server to cater for the average player who just wants to enjoy themselves, leaving server #16 to be able to be capped by the more experienced player on a regular basis

In an ideal world I'd have all the server rules displayed to players as they join but this is impractical for two reasons. Firstly, the MOTD just isn't big enough to display even our pretty simple rules and secondly, as I can testify, the fact that we clearly advertise racism as being a perm bannable offense doesn't seem to stop people using racist language.

Ergo, if people don't read the one simple rule that we currently have posted in the MOTD what makes you think they're going to read several rules in the same list? :( As stated initially, I simply do not have the room to include even our simple set of rules.

The point being if you have rules stated, You have a something you can point out to people as a warning, then use as backup and confirmation when enforcing them. They also set as a publicly available reminder of what your admins can and can not punish for. ( and lets the public know what the admins should & shouldn't be enforcing)

It doesn't matter where the rules are stated, even if its just a list of rules on a sticky thread here on the forums, with a link provided on the server message. (see the BF2 rules thread in the BF forum -cant remember if i unstuck it or not- but it served out the popularity of BF2's peak here at MPUK)
People need to read them, just be made aware of them before further action is taken.

Without a clear stated rule set you end up with events like this thread, Where in trying to help one person, an innocent has been wrongly banned by an admin (now lifted)
