View Full Version : No Kitchen for StratLAN Xmas!

Apparently the repairs to the Paddock suite building are taking a long time. As a result of this, we will have no access to the kitchen at Stratlan Xmas and even if we did, there are no fridges or other kitchen equipment out there. The Paddock Suite itself is fine and the bar area is ok to use (it doesn't have a bar though, but we'll improvise! :p).
As a result of the above, there will be zero provided fridge/freezer space at StratLAN. For hot water we will be reduced to a kettle at reception. We will also have a microwave at reception (we take that along anyway).
However, like last time you will be able to bring along your own minifridges and plug them into the event power. Please ensure they are no more than 60W if possible (most are less than that). I can also strongly recommend the "bring a coolerbox and buy ice from tesco/morrisons on the way in" method of keeping beverages cold :).
It's a bit of a pain, but I'm sure we'll all manage. We are somewhat spoilt with the amounts of fridge space at StratLANs usually :).

Wizzo I have great respect for you but annoucing this a week before the lan after everyones booked is a bit of a kick in the balls. I imagine you were holding out for the best but a warning would have been nice.

I'll have to go down the coolbox plus ice route for the woefully cheap own-brand cava then. Makes what was already going to be vulgar just that bit more Essex, doesn't it :)

Hell lets just have the bar up there :p:

ice in cool boxes lasts for ages. We've left them overnight and the ice+water in has still been very cold the next day.
I'm tempted to invest in a lan freezer though... going to have a look around :p

Moar Real Ale required.

There is a small kitchen upstairs, but I'm not sure how well equipped it is. Best bet for now is to assume no facilities then you can come prepared.

Ohes Noes, instead of having to walk all the way to kitchen for beer, I will have to just reach down into my coolerbox :D
Are we allowed to plug kettles into the event power grid ? 1 Kettle for everybody sounds like a pot noodle disaster come dinnertime! :(

Typical kettles consume 1.8 kilowatts i think... If you plugged that into the event power grid I think you would not be the most popular person in the venue...

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
Did I say no? :)
Seriously, Kettles can use more than 3kW of power, which would seriously overload the event power. By contrast, the minifridges we let you bring should be no more than 60W, so you need 50 of them to match the power usage of a kettle.
We will have a kettle provided on reception which will be plugged into a separate main. We will also have a microwave there and now a small freezer (for ice only!).

Sounds like a challenge to me :v
(And reminds me of the good old days when we had a kettle party to check the power rating of a room for a lan...)

At this time of year, just leave your beer in the boot of the car and fetch as needed tbh.

I really dont understand the drama, there wasnt a fridge / Kitchen at the last stratlan and we all made it through OK. Yes it's a bit inconvenient apart from that I'm sure we will all cope just fine. :)

Communication... with Stratlan punters....
I still weep with joy when Elbonio sends out information before T-minus 48hrs
Actually my favorite was Wiz sending out late night of the night before the event, when many people had already packed up. Such a winner :D

Weather looking _fine_ for the external storage of beverages ;-)
Not so good for the campers though! Hope you got hot water bottles...

Yeah, the lack of kitchen was really a non-issue. Not having somewhere to put food was a tad annoying, but really, #care about the kitchen.
The lack of decent toilets however...

The showers were good actually, better than the normal facilities.
However going out to the portacabin loo block in the freezing cold was really not fun.
