Anyone else having problems with their connection?
Keep getting drop outs every so often. The router lights stop flashing (but stay lit), the line drops, and then it comes back. Enough to kick me out of a game though, really annoying!
Did a couple of tracerts...
One minute it's like this-
Tracing route to core4.multiplay.co.uk [85.236.96.2]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 17 ms 99 ms 99 ms 192.168.1.254
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 * * * Request timed out.
4 18 ms 18 ms 18 ms 213.161.72.69
5 19 ms 18 ms 18 ms ldn-b1-link.telia.net [213.248.75.1]
6 18 ms 18 ms 18 ms ldn-tch-i1-link.telia.net [80.91.250.210]
7 19 ms 37 ms 19 ms datahop-113454-ldn-tch-i1.c.telia.net [213.248.7
5.6]
8 18 ms 17 ms 17 ms core4.multiplay.co.uk [85.236.96.2]
and the next min, it's seemingly ok, like this-
Tracing route to core4.multiplay.co.uk [85.236.96.2]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 71 ms 99 ms 99 ms 192.168.1.254
2 19 ms 19 ms 18 ms 87-194-128-1.bethere.co.uk [87.194.128.1]
3 19 ms 20 ms 19 ms 10.1.1.13
4 * 18 ms 20 ms 213.161.72.69
5 18 ms 18 ms 18 ms ldn-b1-link.telia.net [213.248.75.1]
6 19 ms 19 ms 18 ms ldn-tch-i1-link.telia.net [80.91.250.210]
7 19 ms 19 ms 19 ms datahop-113454-ldn-tch-i1.c.telia.net [213.248.7
5.6]
8 19 ms 18 ms 17 ms core4.multiplay.co.uk [85.236.96.2]
Trace complete.
Just wondered if anyone else was having these problems?
:(:

Judging from those tracerts, your problem is within your home network and not on the BE side of your router.
Any other PC's on the network or people hopping on wifi?

i would have said that it was the be* line that is flapping. my line has been doing it a bit recently, it keeps booting me out of msn and stuff.

They had a problem a few months ago with the internet drop that was due to them, needless to say its been fixed everywhere.
your either synced too high or somethings wrong your side.
im synced at 18-21mb down 2.5 up and its fine my end, used to have dropouts left right and center until I removed my extension cable and got rid of the ADSL filters and jacked the filter straight onto the main terminal box that comes into the house, the routers plugged straight in.
doing that cleared up any problems I had, I recommend it if you have the time.

Last week I had issues with my line flapping like that. I rang bethere and the first person fobbed me off about how the custom template im using was breaking it. After giving up with him I rang back the next day I spoke to a much more helpful person who determined that perhaps during the recent wind something odd happened to my line and it got noisier (or something) they set my s/n ratio which slowed down the connection but made it stable again.

I'm putting this down to the rain/wind we've had recently :(:
It's not synced too high, the current sync is actually slightly below what it is usually happy and stable with.

Speedtouch routers apparently always show a high ping for the first hop. Mine does the same:
Tracing route to core4.multiplay.co.uk [85.236.96.2]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 71 ms 99 ms 99 ms dsldevice.lan [192.168.0.1]
2 31 ms 27 ms 29 ms gauthier-dsl1.hq.zen.net.uk [62.3.82.17]
3 * 29 ms 33 ms lotze-ge-0-0-1-136.hq.zen.net.uk [62.3.80.137]
4 32 ms 31 ms 29 ms nietzsche-ae2-0.ls.zen.net.uk [62.3.80.70]
5 30 ms 31 ms 31 ms nozick-ae1-0.ls.zen.net.uk [62.3.80.74]
6 36 ms 41 ms 47 ms lorenz-so-0-1-0-0.te.zen.net.uk [62.3.80.78]
7 39 ms 37 ms 37 ms leibniz-ge-0-0-0-0.te.zen.net.uk [62.3.80.42]
8 39 ms 37 ms 37 ms sw0.thn.datahop.it [195.66.225.32]
9 35 ms 37 ms 39 ms 195.72.129.14
10 37 ms 39 ms 37 ms core4.multiplay.co.uk [85.236.96.2]
Trace complete.
Maybe you're seeing SNR fluctuations. Try DMT (http://dmt.mhilfe.de/) and leave the SNR monitor running. Assuming it supports your router/firmware. Mine won't do it!

Yeah the speedtouch pings weren't of my concern, they've always been like that.
It was the PL and stuff. Ran Winmtr a few times last night, and then again this morning. Been getting significant (>40%, usually around 50-60%) PL on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th hops which suggests something is up with them.

Begs the question, why are you asking here? Shouldn't you be phoning support?

I'm asking here because it is intermittant. Usually, it is solid as a rock, hence my opinion that it's a passing phase :):

We had the line dropping issues a while back and in the end BE moved us to a more stable connection - supposedly we're on a slower connection now but we haven't noticed any slowness - but no more dc's yay!

if you want non existant service thats last to none virgin are the way to go, they also packet shape like no bodys business and there usage limits are crazy.
Ive heard nothing but bad things but these could just be rumors and bad experience's.

Sorry Helen, it's off topic but ez64 statred it and I couldn't let it go unanswered:
if you want non existant service thats last to none
It's an Indian call centre, but their long opening hours mean at night when it's convenient for me I phone up and have no queue. They'll also check your problem right away instead of asking stupid questions like "is it plugged in" which has been my experience of other providers. It's 25p a minute but that gets refunded if there is a genuine problem.
they also packet shape like no bodys business
I can torrent, newsgroup, and even download at full speed (depending on the server of course) at any time of the day. I haven't noticed any packet shaping and my WoW ping is 50ms, 100ms during peak times.
there usage limits are crazy.
I can download 3gb a day during peak hours, and unlimited outside of those hours. I get limited down to 5mb if I do go over (never happened) and that automatically lifts itself after just 4 hours. It means download whores don't stop me gaming.
Ive heard nothing but bad things but these could just be rumors and bad experience's.
Pretty much, I love my 20mb Virgin connection and you couldn't pay me to switch to ADSL. :)

I've got both Virgin and Be.
Be >>>>>>>>> Virgin.
Virgin is useless for fps around my gaff anywhere near peak, its just a backup connection for when the inevitable Be works are on. (I've had 4 outages of Be in the last year, and its always when i'm working from home.) When Be works its head and shoulders above Virgin.

I should really say, gaming has been fine since then. No lag or drop outs. I didn't change anything either, must have just been the weather.
