Updated!

The fourth beta version of UT3 patch 1.1 is currently in testing. The patch contains all of the previous fixes from beta 1 - beta 3, as well as two new ones:

# Fixed demo playback not working if the PlayerController didn't get recorded into the first frame
# Added new IdleServerTickRate property to IpDrv.TcpNetDriver. If not set, IdleServerTickRate defaults to MaxTickRate. Can be set to lower values to reduce server CPU utilization when 0 players. Reported ping will increase if set lower.

Let's hope that the first official patch isn't far away now.

Epic have announced that they are testing yet another beta patch for the recently released Unreal Tournament 3.

There are only a few changes between the second beta patch and this one. Perhaps the most notable change is the addition of a favourite server tab in the server browser. The updated change log can be found below:

Changelog

Gameplay:
- Fixed weapon crosshair incorrectly turning red when hit enemy on the client, but not on the server.
- Disabled attenuation/spatialization on mission briefing sounds.

Server Browser:
- Implemented a Favorites tab page in the server browser.
- Fixed incorrect mutators appearing in server browser details if client & server are not using the same language

User Interface:
- Fixed up the GDF project for Vista

Networking:
- Fixed "open" console command when connecting to Internet servers
- Fixed bugs and exploits associated with ServerViewNextPlayer()/ServerViewPrevPlayer()/ServerViewSelf() being received after the server has already moved the PlayerController out of the spectating state
- Added "BecomeActive" exec to switch from spectator to player

Server Admin:
- Fixed servers advertising as the wrong gametype if the gametype is changed without restarting the server
- Fixed IP addresses being reported in host byte order instead of network byte order

Map Specific:
- Improved bot AI with Leviathan in Torlan.

Epic wish to keep this patch private, so don't ask for any download links please.

i just got ut3 today, if i somehow managed to get my hands on any of the beta patches which all sound like the improve stuff, do they break forwards patching? i.e. when the final patch is released will it just install over the top like with previous UTs?

You've got at least the first beta patch though?

It at least means you can save offline campaign progress, and more settings... (if you haven't got online to register a user).

Though it does still forget the "don't show empty servers" setting, which is quite a handy one with the player numbers how they are at the moment.

Personally I think they should have stopped dicking around, and already released a patch with the critical fixes. Then they can update with some of the less critical ones.

Is there anything worth faffing for over beta1? (as opposed to waiting for a proper release).

Server favourites* and the fixed x-hair are nice... but not must-haves for me...

*disabling empty servers does nearly as well :(:
