What we need is a good old fashioned diplomatic wrangling game. Co-op or free for all, whatever works. As such, I am recommending you lay hands on Victoria (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_(game)) and/or Europa Universalis III (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europa_Universalis_III) by those lovely Swedes at Paradox.

If someone can afford to buy Twilight Emperium the board game, i'd love to have a game of this at SLAN, i've mentioned it to Afty before, but being the student bum that I am I can't actually afford to buy and bring a copy.

Settlers is pretty simplistic, there's not enough interaction until you're actively beating someones borders down.

EU3 will probably end up taking too long (400 years http://goonfleet.com/images/smilies/gf-aaa.gif) but Vicky should be doable. Do you have Revolutions as well (Victoria expansion)?
