View Full Version : Dustbowl only servers, no stage 3

I play the dustbowl only servers a lot but I noticed that coz of time limits we hardly ever get to stage 3, usually only 1,2,3,1,2 then reload to 1 again.
It would be better if it went on a bit longer so both teams get to attack & defend stage 3.

As far as I know, this isnt something the server has any control over. Its something thats set in the game.
The question is though, why would you want to. If you keep stalling at section two then its because the defending team puts up a better defence than the attacking team puts up attack. Surely this is the point of the game to allow the superiour team to win.
If only one team gets to attack stage three, then its because they are the only team that deserves to attack stage three. The other team should put up a better attack during stage two and they will earn stage three.

gemini is indeed correct, the limits are built into the map and it's not something we can alter, certainly not without haxing the coding within the map anyway.

"then its because they are the only team that deserves to attack stage three"
Why because when the server reloaded they were on the blue team coz of the even teams rule?
On no time lmit severs the scores get quite high 8-6, 6-0 etc, this is much more accurate than 3-1 or 2-1 & interesting stat wise but this is not allowed to happen coz of reloads. It also takes away team spirit, eg engies working together or a good medic with voice comms etc. Then on the reload they might be enemies.
They are only fun servers & because of this some of the variety is taken away.

I can up the overall time limit from 40 minutes to say 1 hour and may try that but ultimately it often happens that one team is supremely better than another and the lesser team tend to leave in droves. A longer maplength might result in more leaving whereas a complete restart is usually enough to shake the teams up. It's a very tricky one to get right. :(

obviously each stage is timed in the map, but if for example, each stage has a 10 minute limit, and you set the next map to load on 45 minutes, it means 1 team gets the full 3 stages over 30 mins, and the other team gets sold short half way through round 2.
The original complaint was along these lines i believe, OBVIOUSLY if you cant win stage 2 within the time limit you dont move on to stage 3!

Even with a 40 minute map timelimit I've seen both teams get a chance on offense and defence regularly. Conversly, I've also seen an attack team pinned down at point 1 for much of the map too. That tends to happen to me a lot. Damn, it probably is me! :)

Indeed its quite possible to win every stage in dustbowel in under 10 minutes, but if its a tougher game you may well make last minute wins on each of the stages, taking up essentially the full time limit per stage. With short map rotations, you are then denying the second attacking team the chance to make last minute stage victories (at least in the 2nd and 3rd stages ) simply due to the time left on the map before rotation. Fine if the teams are unbalanced skill wise and the attackers can make quick stage wins, but if its a ballanced game, going down to the wire it is unfair.
Just extend the map rotation time to allow for 2 rounds of full stage times, eg if the stage time (map decided) is 10 mins, and its a 3 stage map, allow 60 mins to give both teams equil opportunity at victory.
Obviously this all depends on the times per stage. It may well be 40 mins is enough for 2x(3xstage time)
