View Full Version : utdc accusing me of using a TriggerBOT

Now before I start, this isn't on the MPUK servers.
I fancied a bash on LMS Instagib last night, but as is often the case the MPUK server was empty, so I tried another. I watched the end of a game, then joined in and, to my surprise, managed to win two games in a row.
Then one of the other players said, "Someone kick this guy!". I said, "Who?", and he said, "You!". I said, "Why?!?", and he and others then said they were getting utdc messages stating I was using a TriggerBOT. (I never knew of such a thing...a mod with fires your gun as soon as your crosshair touches an opponent.)
On the next level I didn't shoot my Super Shock Rifle at all, so scored zero, but still people were saying I should be kicked, and wondering why the system hasn't kicked me. I was saying, "Look, I scored zero, some of you clearly ran infront of me, doesn't this show I'm not cheating?". In the end and before the abuse really got started I left.
Now I'm very reluctant to join any of the MPUK servers in case they also detect this weird anomaly and ban me, which I really don't want. I've definitely not got any aimbots loaded whatsoever, so does anyone know what might be causing these messages? :(: :(:
(Perhaps the others weren't actually seeing messages, but were just assuming I was BOTting...I did happen to be on pretty good form!!) ;-)

if their was a message saying you where tboting you would of been kicked..... they are just making it up to frighten you , on the other hand if you got kicked yourself then it would be a different matter
correct me if im wrong

utdc does show a false positive from time to time.
I had it the other week when going into a clanwar - used the other teams server and 3 us of us got a kick.
we all reconnexed and it was fine.

Several people were saying they were seeing the message, and they were also all wondering why it was that the system wasn't kicking me. "You still here?", "Why's he not getting kicked?", were mentioned.
One chap did say he spectated me and decided I wasn't cheating, but the way they were going on about it made me think that they really were seeing these messages.
Oh well, I'll try the server again some time and see what happens, and if the message appears on the MPUK servers then I'll cross that bridge when I come to it...
Thanks.

what did the message say exactly?

I don't know I'm afraid. I wasn't seeing it, and the other players were too busy trying to play to really explain to me what it was saying.

Here's a little tale.
There's a ut99 cheater we know about who regularly tries to get on our servers and gets booted out again every time. We call him [StFu](v)ofo because that's the nick he was using when we first banned him. He's got a bit of an anger management issue too. The UT world's much better off without him, at least on our corner of it.
On November the 12th, he joined with two known cheats using the nick Hijacker:
Nov 12 21:59:06 (MPUK|LMS1 [14:18] * HiJacker 77.100.203.20 MODS LKNameStealer.LKNameStealer:::LiquidKill's Name Stealer)
Nov 12 21:59:10 (MPUK|LMS1 [14:18] * HiJacker 77.100.203.20 MODS ServerKillg2.aTMod:::ServerKill g2)
Upon joining our server he immediately changed nick to [TPB]Adrena1in (There is a rumour going around some circles that if you change your nick when you join a Multiplay server you can avoid being kicked. It's not true btw. We fixed that loophole ages ago.)
(Nick IP: [TPB]Adrena1in / 77.100.203.20)
One of the cheats installed is NameStealer, and it stole your name.
Whatever - from our point of view it doesn't matter, we know nicks get faked so don't rely on them. We can even protect your nick on our servers if it becomes a regular problem. (We already do that for admins and one or two regular players who have been attacked by means of someone using their nick and a cheat to try and get them banned). I thought I'd mention it that you'd been faked, probably at random.

Wow, I'm almost flattered! :D:

Multiplay with the help of Uberman Flash have brilliant admin tools.
You can't beat watching lamers and trouble causers trying their utmost to disrupt things on the servers.......only to find out they suddenly can't connect anymore...no matter what they try :>: ;)

You know what would be REALLY good. If the AnthChecker, rather than just kicking a cheater, would do something adverse to their game.
For example, let's say they were trying to use an Aimbot. AnthChecker would actually somehow disable and reverse this, so rather than them not being able to miss, they'd actually end up not being able to hit you. They'd be highlighted, so you could just stand infront of them and wave, while they shoot and their shots go all over the place, sideways, before you pop them in the head.
Now THAT would be funny. ;)

There's one that does something similar - I think it was called Anti-Shock-Ho or something like that... it would out cheaters by saying what hook they had, and post defamatory messages of the server admins' creation... I think The All-Powerful Flash wrote something about it...
Here's Flash's Aimbot Article (http://digdilem.org/ut/aimbot.php)
and here's Bunny's ASH Article (http://digdilem.org/ut/ash-info.php)
very cool... didn't notice till just now that you updated, Flash!!!!! :awesome:

Yes adrenalin, that'd be ace :)
Thanks Shred. A lot of what's on that faq is out of date in a way, it was first written about five years ago! All kinds of cheats are attempted all the time. Sadly ASH is not effective against modern bots now, nor is Pure. What we actually use is secret and unique to Multiplay.
However - the best defence against cheaters are regular players and active admins watching for unusual accuracy. Impossible to watch every game no matter how many admins you have, but regulars should also play their part by reporting suspicious behavior using !admin in-game, or coming to #mpukunreal on Quakenet and reporting there. There's usually somebody around who can check 'em out, and if not we'll tag that player to be checked next time they turn up on any of our servers.
There's been a few times recently where people have reported !admin during the night but given no reason or nick, so when we come to review the chatlogs the next day we have no idea who or what the problem was so can't do anything...

you could do something like this to help the admins know what the problem was in that situation:
!admin G1T is portal camping
!admin B0T looks too accurate
so when we see the !admin call next morning we also see why and who was judged to be at fault.

Unusual accuracy is a weird one though...I've had games where I suddenly become unusually accurate for an entire game of LMS, (often against players far better than me and sometimes taking a shot at nothing as I walk round a corner, only to frag someone mid-dodge...I'd call myself a cheat if I could!!) I guess I wouldn't mind if someone did call an Admin about me in cases like that...would be quite an honour.
I did nearly use it the other day in LMS when someone was really dominating, (I mean getting two or three times more kills than anyone else), and at one time I was spectating him, (from behind his eyes no less, rather than a fixed third-person camera view), and the display was very jerky...he was hardly missing at all. But as usually I just assumed he was good.
Also, I apologise for my use of the "!admin" command on the (I think) only time I've had to use it. I didn't know how it worked...I thought it summoned an Admin. I didn't appreciate it was more of a marker for the logs, to be used to highlight someone or something that was going on.

I know exactly what you means - a 180º turn and headshot someone on Deck by sniper and yet another time running directly behind some1 on iCTF and simply cannot hit them.
sometimes the surprise spin n fire is a lot more accurate then an intended shot.

Oh yes, exact thing happened to me on the same evening where I HAD been on frighteningly good form. M4rdyB appears, I'm chasing him down a corridor, shooting over his shoulders, under his armpits, everywhere but AT him, then he jumps and spins 180 degrees and I'm dead before I can blink!!
Damn him! :p

Yeah, definately. And any player can have a lucky run. Experience is the key method when playing against someone, they don't 'feel' right - but even that isn't reliable unless they're blatant and hitting everything that moves, and you get shot every time when moving from somewhere they had no way of knowing you were at, especially when there are more than 2 players in the game.
The more subtle cheats are harder to call and I'm not going to explain in a public forum exactly how you'd identify them...

I think it really is obvious when someone is using a bot but it's now getting harder and harder to decipher what is what as there's miss-fires and bad shots that some use to hide the fact that they're using a bot. But the 'behindview 0' command is very useful if you suspect a cheat as you can watch their every move and easily tell that an Aimbot is being used or Triggerbot etc. Tis' a pity they turn up in Insta more times then not and just ruin everything!
But there can be the extremely odd case where players are just like Loque on Godlike and you hardly even see them when they shoot! :awesome:
Also, the way I shoot is that I see the target then move my mouse from the right of the destination to the left and shoot somewhere in the middle of that. I don't just move the cursor straight to the target but move it past them while shooting. Thats probably why I've been accused of having a Triggerbot because it looks similar.

Though I once got accused of using a trigger bot 'cos I only fired when my cross hair was over someone...
The other players, even some who'd also accused me of cheating, did laugh when I asked why on earth would I fire when my cross hair wasn't over someone :)
